So why bother with it ?

I agree with you, corporate facilities are a must, with tv money, clubs, rely less on ticket sales these days they really make little difference to the club. Corporate are the only ones that can make a difference financially to the club. the owners will be getting a redeveloped main stand pushed out asap, they have to to compete.

Then the whitehorse, sainsburys are supposedly holding a hard bargain but thats to be expected. I see it being a win win for them, pretty sure it will happen eventually, with sainsburys getting a very good deal. so a new stand with the idea of putting away fans there.

So now we have a new Whitehorse for away fans and a new main stand for corporate. Even if it adds 6k that brings us upto 32k.

We've got the arthur that holds 8k, tell me what benefit redeveloping that stand would bring to the club. It would cost millions and where is the financial return. Maybe it could include amneties for the local community, tho there's not much space. But redeveloping the arthur, is the squeeze worth the juice ?

Why bother with the Arfur?

- Well you complained that there was little room to move, get to the toilets, move about in the concourse area.

- You said away fans always complain about it being so sh1t and SP commenting on it.

- It is 47 years old. The main stand will be corporate or those ST holders who generally prefer staying seated with little comotion, the maturer supporters amongst us if you like, and the slightly vocal who like the interior bars in the Glaziers sections. Holmesdale almost sold out. WH Lane for away fans, possibly ST holders as well if segregated. Separate tiers possibly. So where do the ordinary people you're trying to attract go? Mainly the Arfur, as is pretty much the case now. What do modern day newcomers want? Modernity/comfort/decent food/drink outlets. A stadium redevelopment is just that, not half of one and leave a stand be when it's 47 years old. By the time the main stand and WH are finished it'll be older. The Holmesdale is 20 years old and although acceptable, that'll be much older too being the last in line.

- It needs to be done if you're planning to maximise seating within a confined space because joining the stands up adds quite a few thousand onto capacity. You cannot join stands without them being purpose built for that.

- If away fans are in the WH end then you probably will not need anything like the segregation there is now. More tickets to be sold.

Of course I want it done, I'm a fan that uses it, luckily 2010 are also fans but at the same time very astute businessman, I wouldn't expect them to chuck god knows how much of their money at something with no return, plus it would make them very poor businessmen. Basically we have to make do. Nothing will drastically change my match day experience in my lifetime.

You'd fit more into the demographic of the Glaziers section of the main stand rather than around The Stephensons or the bit next to the Directors on that same side.

Generalisations of course because you do get irate fans throwing abuse at refs and linos all over the main stand but you probably get the picture.

Yep. No more 18-30 club holidays for you. Get used to it.

Not looking for a long argument here but I don't get it. You say we, or you, deserve better, and that somewhere this is being prevented. Then later on you say you want better but then you don't expect them to make it better for you. So why complain about it and say we deserve better if you understand it won't happen (or you think it won't happen)

No that was my point from the beginning, we do deserve better but staying at selhurst we won't get it, it's definitely not the owners fault. You make a good argument and make it sound easy in writting but earlier said we needed to be in the prem so all this happening is on the assumption that we remain in the prem for however long,we are currently 17th with our strongest squad and most of my life we have played in the 2nd tier, sorry for not being quite the optimist.

As I recall we only got planning permission for the Arfur as long as it was no higher than it is now because the residents complained about their light being reduced. Although the Holmesdale is huge so maybe the planners would allow the Arfur to be rebuilt on the same lines. I don't live in Croydon any more so have no idea what the planners there allow these days.

Coming into Croydon you can see how much money they are pumping into the local area (well East Croydon), They are all so allowing new development to go up higher than before.

My Dad a palace fan told me that in the 90's they had planning granted for a new upper stand, is this true and did they renew the planning permission?

just redevelop the main stand and incorporate the holmesdale to connect to main stand with seats in the corner to fill in the gap the main stand only holds 6,163 while the arthur holds 9,754 no point to develop that stand firs to help away fans 1st f*** them they stated the money is in corporate functions so has to be main stand also the arthur is up against planning permissions from the stand been to high and blocking light to residents
