I’m ready to be shot down in flames for this suggestion, because I’m not sure about it myself, but I’d nevertheless be interested in other people’s opinions.

Anthony Modeste currently plays for FC Köln (Cologne) in the German Bundesliga. This is his third season in this league. He had two seasons at Hoffenheim, scoring 19 goals in 55 appearances, before joining Köln for whom he has scored 14 goals in 31 appearances this season – almost one every other game.

He is 28 years old, which is not a bad age for a striker and he is French, so should feel at home at Palace. He has played very briefly in the Premier League when he made just 5 appearances for Blackburn on loan back in 2012, but Bordeaux weren’t willing to sell him.

His current value, according to [Link] is £4.5m, although if Köln were prepared to let him go, they would no doubt expect to receive more than that from a team in the moneybags league.

I just thought he could be a more reasonable target for us than some of the ridiculous names we get linked with every transfer window, and yet might be a step up from the quality of player we often seem to end up with.

He was on loan at Blackburn then went back to Bordeaux and did nothing. I think there are better options out there. Personally I'd like to see us go for a European level player eg

Raul Jimenez at benfica
Arkadiuz milik at Ajax
Cederic bakambu at Villarreal
Wissam Ben yedder at Toulouse
Khouma babacar at fiorentina

Although personally Borja Gonzalez at eibar won't break the bank id say 5 mil max ? and has scored 17 in 34 this year for a relatively poor team.

Would be incredible but Koln would never even contemplate letting him go, he's a gem in that league!
