I think it's more of a case that the defenders have been off form (not necessarily down to Martinez) but that's where the buck stops. Jagielka has been injured I recall mori getting banned Baines almost unrecognisable Coleman hit & miss. Stones under Martinez was playing excellent & there had to resist Chelsea's overtures with a substantial bid in the offing. I don't think that defensive setup has changed imo just collectively players off the boil.

I never believe a manager cannot be responsible for player form. Good form stems from good management. I can understand if one player is off colour but not an entire defence. He's not getting a tune out of the team and The players aren't responding to his management. He's trying to turn Everton into Arsenal light and it's not what they expect at Goodison.

By that rationale analysing things with the form would it be logical to conclude that certain injuries to key players (forgot the baines layoff before also) that was more likely to have been a factor with the defence & haemorrhaging goals especially set pieces. I don't believe that Martinez is solely to blame for circumstances he couldn't control yes he's the fall guy someone has to be.

None of their players have improved this season, they've all gone backwards IMO.

Think getting rid of him was the right decision. If Rafa leaves Newcastle I can see Roberto heading there as he plays the 'Newcastle way'.
