Shame sunderland did not go down as I'd fancy Kirchoff, Khazri, Defoe - shows what good business they did in the January window.

Mark Taylor (Performance Director) worked alongside Allardyce regards the January "Transfer Window" but he left his post in March.

To be honest none of the squads that went down inspire me.

however I'd probably prefer Townsend, Redmond and Wijnaldum - alas no one from Vila.

Unfortunately most of the decent players of the teams that went down are wingers - a position where we do not have a lack of talent

But we do have a lack of competition for those wide positions. Townsend or Redmond would challenge Bolasie and Zaha to improve.

That's logical. It's a bit like Speroni, who hasn't played for us all season (bar Trafford) so I never think of him as part of the team / squad or a reason for us being safe!

Very true, when a player has not been part of a team you can't really count them.

The FA don't, if a player has not taken part or been named in a match squad, if that team wins the FA Cup they do not get a meddle.

Timm Klose at Norwich. Got injured at our place I know but up till then looked very good and improved there back 4 no end.

Totally agree. Klose would top my list by far; exactly what we need and he and Dann would form a very solid partnership.

I don't think Townsend or Lascelles will leave Newcastle, at least next year and particularly if Benitez stays. But I do think Shelvey could be a good fit for us and I think he's more likely to be moved on. That said, I wouldn't pay anything like what Newcastle did to get him.

Norwich, I am on the fence about Redmond. Good player, but not totally sure he is what we need. We'd certainly want to offload a few first. Villa possibly Ayew but again, probably not a priority.

Bottom line for me is Klose. The rest I am ambivalent about.

Why would we "Plundering the relegated" those teams were relegated for a reason, that reason is the players playing for those teams were not playing well enough to keep their side in the league, we need to strengthen the side not move sideways or backwards.

There's loads of poor teams with decent players in. Johnson ( top goal scorer ever in a relegated premier league team) and Hughes were both premier league quality when we were relegated.
So is Townsend , ayew and arguably a few other that have just gone. . Obviously taking a load of relegated players wouldn't work, but cherry picking a few decent ones is fine.

To be honest, I don't think Krul is a bad shout. Only one clean sheet, but that's from 8 games due to injury (which I guess is the biggest worry about him). Also saved 34/50 shots on target.

Gestede. Seems to have slipped off the radar but was highly rated before moving to Villa

I wouldn't have minded Gestede when Villa bought him and although I'm not convinced he is more than a squad player, there are worse "fourth" forwards to have on the bench. My biggest problem with him, though, was his lack of fight this season. I know pretty much every Villa player gave up but time and again I saw balls played into the box that Gestede simply wasn't prepared to put his head in where it hurts for. If he's open he's a lovely header of the ball but I think his competitive qualities are questionable. So my worry with him is whether he's got the mettle it takes to be a Palace sort of player or whether he's more style than substance. There's a reason players like Cameron Jerome endure, while better players like Gestede often don't. Personally, I'd pass.

His quality in the air is well known but he is not the most mobile and doesn't really have the pace to get behind defences.
