If anyone listens to Radio 4s programme on how numbers are manipulated [name?] it is quite extraordinary how pressure groups blatantly cook the books to serve an agenda in the sure and certain knowledge that those with an opinion aligned to there's will lock on to it as fact (OP?).

I am not saying this figure is wrong as I do not know. I am saying that Id be interested in how the figure was arrived at. Is it based on solid data input or on speculation? Has the calculation factored in the fiscal benefits to this country of immigration or is this just one side of the equation?

It would take analysis by those a great deal cleverer and probably duller than I armed with a huge volume of information in order to give the final NET figure any empirical value.

Until then,, it sounds to me like a number that might as well be plucked from the sky.

It's common sense not to just believe whatever figures happen to support your view and to be somewhat more analytical. Or you could just gobble up whatever is thrown at you because it makes you feel better. Your choice, of course.
