These changes are pointless and again shows the people that come up with this stuff really do not have a clue. I bet the real reason for menthol ban is that it costs more to produce them so really it's a nice way for the tobacco companies to stop producing them without taking the negative heat.

Farage. I was thinking about that, and its true, the only party that has ever represented the 'interests of smokers' since the 90s, is UKIP. Although there are a few politicians that have been critical of government agendas regarding smokers on all sides of the bench, I think he probably is the stand out example. Call me Dave - I'm a cast-iron Eurosceptic PM, me". I want our politicians ultimately and supremely accountable, with the buck stopping at Downing Street. When they fcuk it up, we can kick them out. Who was it we voted in that initiated this legislation? Disclosure: I'm not a smoker, and never have been.

This could possibly be a very lucrative business venture, if people were to buy a packet & sell them on in single cigarettes. I sometimes get off at Hoyt Schemerhorn Subway station in Brooklyn & always used to wonder why loads of mainly black guys would congregate outside the entrance. I put it down to the fact that there is a DVLA across the street. In fact these hustlers are selling 'Loosies' individual cigarettes for people who cant afford a pack. I was further surprised to find out that Its Illegal & you can get fined & repeat offenders do jail time!!!

I'm pretty sure that's what the guy, who died while being restrained by the police in NY, was doing. The crime is not charging tax on them, despite the fact you've paid it when buying the pack/tobacco in the first place.

Ironically, the EU also provides the only really established independent means of doing this. Problem is of course when they do f**k up, they're not booted out of power, power just shifts to the people with a different colour tie, who are largely the people they replaced. The best and arguably only recourse to government power and abuse of that power remains the ECHR. Politicians aren't accountable, at best they're scapegoats, who then move onto lucrative private careers that pay far more when they f**k up. And its those interests they represent, not ours. I'd agree, we should have a democratically elected and accountable government. But that would mean a lot of reforms. Politicians tend to use the EU as a means of scapegoating unpopular decisions. But remember the UK has a veto, and its under no obligation to implement EU legislation against its will.

Its illegal here, only licenced outlets can sell alcohol and tobacco products, with fines and jail time on the cards. In fact if I remember rightly, you can only legally sell them from a licenced and registered premises. Also in terms of cigarettes, I don't think your allowed to sell them mail order either, with the exception I believe being specific tobacconists that cater to speciality brands. Oddly, you can by booze on ebay and Amazon, but not tobacco. Edited by jamiemartin721 (25 May 2016 12.40pm)
