Sadly likely very true. People with very severe allergies likely died young, or if they were identified, were very cautious people. Likely they carried adrenaline etc but that first attack of anaphylaxes would likely have killed them if they weren't in a hospital etc.

I wouldn't be surprise if such people had adrenaline available in one form or another. But then also people back in the past likely eat out a lot less and cross contamination from production was less common as were mass produced and pre-packaged meals.

People used to die of asthma much more frequently in the past, those weren't, largely functioned by taking Benzedrine or using Benzedrine inhalers (basically taking speed).

I'd imagine that most people who were deathly allergic to nuts, probably were dead at a young age.

If it was that serious an allergy why did he not have his Epi pen with him ?

(that in now way detracts blame from the Resturant owner just may have saved his life is all )

Epi pen is a 'last chance saloon', its hard to remain calm enough to inject yourself, and chances are that people around you won't know to do it. If your at home alone, I'd imagine its a 50-50 or so.

I'm curious, do restaurants etc have epi-pens on hand to deal with allergic reactions (that said, I'd imagine adrenaline has a street value. Certainly you can get 'very high' on adrenaline in pill form.

Not sure of your point here- do you think the killer curry chef got hit too hard, or the drunk driver got off light?

If it's the latter- spot on. Killing someone through drink/drug driving should carry a mandatory 10 years.

If it's the former- I think plenty of others have made the point there- fair sentence for someone who cannot have failed to know the consequences of his actions (what, did he think they asked for a nut free curry just because they didn't like nuts?!)

I've worked in a takeaway before (bad part of my life) These Cnuts are notorious for it. Anything to cut costs. Selling on the menu "lamb, beef, meat" currys when it's only ever mutton. Health would come round unexpectedly and say do this do that before this date or you'll close. They get all of them in over night the night before and clean. Health come round and are happy. They go away and its the same old s*** for another 12 months. Ridiculous. The amount of food poisoning we've had around this area is untrue. One of the local ones closed and another has just been raided by hmrc for not paying minimum wage. Which has gone on for years.

Yannick Bolasie - Glenn Murray - Wilfried Zaha

Most exciting attacking trio at Selhurst Park in years.

Its about the difference of certainty in terms of consequences. People who drive drunk, whilst c**ts, don't have a certainty of resulting in an accident - Arguably one of the major factors inherent in people becoming regular drink drivers is that they get away with it repeatedly (in an odd paradox, drink driving is actually less dangerous than walking home drunk).

That's not to say I'm defending the drink driver, but there are contributory factors in the offending that degrade the 'intent and deliberate action' to cause harm.

Where as deliberately mislabelling and misleading people with nut allergies, is a certainty that will result in serious threat to life, and possible death. That's wilful, rather than irresponsible.

Also, there is a responsibility factor as well. Whilst a drink driver is irresponsible, their 'direct responsibility' is different than that between restaurateur and client (implied vs implicit contract)

I think there is a case that anyone caught drink driving should face a life ban for their second or third offence (dependent on how over the limit they are, there is a big difference there).

Anyone driving x amount over the limit, should face a life ban, and only be allowed to resume driving should they adapt their car to have a 'breathalyser' triggered ignition (something I don't really think is unreasonable for cars either).

Trading standards and health inspectors are a woefully underfunded section of council services. Inspections need to come with teeth, including the forfeiture of business. Sites should be closed immediately, and need to be inspected at random over the following year or so.

The whole system in place is really geared to the council and owners interests, not the clients.
