I'd be interested to know how many people on here were brought up believing what their parents believed...

I was brought up a catholic, yet i'm now non-practising - probably because my dad was catholic and my mum agnostic, so it wasn't drilled into me as much as maybe two catholic parents would.

Why do you believe in what you believe in? (that might be difficult to answer!)

Both my parents are athiest, but when I went to Brownies I went to Church parade, I didn't go to church at any other time except for wedding, funerals and christnings.

I was asked what I believed when I was very young and when I said I was athiest my mum challenged me as to how I had come to that decision, I said that was because what you are. She told me to have a think about what I believed and left me to make an informed decision for myself for my own reasons.

At primary school we only learnt about christianity, it wasn't until secondary school that we had RE which taught us about all the religions.

As to when and why I believe now what I believe I don't remember.

i was brought up as a catholic but now i am an atheist. my morals are still fundamentally grounded in the christian faith but they have evolved to suit me since then.

i guess the world around me, media, friends and posts like this have since develpoed and sharpened my belief system.

on this note, I think i should mention that i think it very wrong to enter children into any specific faith. i don't believe that parents should drag their children along to their places of faith with them and that they should let the child grow and develop their own ideas without forced into a template.

Hmmm... the eternal question.

I've been told my slant on religion is a bit odd, but after a bit of research (and reading the Da Vinci Code! ) I've realised my beliefs are shared by a lot of others.

1. I'm a regular church-going Christian.
2. However, I don't believe in the creation, the immaculate conception or the resurrection.
3. I don't even believe that Jesus was divine, but I believe that he was an immensely important person who altered people's views on how to live. As a follower of his doctrine I call myself a Christian and I go to Church.
4. I do believe in God, but not as in an old bloke with a long white beard armed with thunderbolts. It's difficult to explain but it's more like God is every one of us, in our souls and consciences - that "little voice" behind our daily lives. And no, I don't hear people telling me to eat children!
