Palace v Coventry City

Selhurst Park, Wednesday 8.00pm

Worthington Cup

Worthington Cup

Team news

Unbeaten in the past 8 games and having won three on the trot, Palace go into Wednesday night’s game on excellent form.

Trevor Francis is likely to start with the bulk of the eleven who beat Ipswich 2-1 at the weekend. With Wayne Routledge injured Francis could go with the 5-2-3 formation which beat the Tractor Boys or change to the more traditional 4-4-2.

A change to 4-4-2 would see Julian Gray back in the side from the first minute with Andrew Johnson possibly moving to the right wing. Following a poor performance on Sunday Aki Riihilahti could be dropped with Mullins moving into midfield.

On the way to the third round Coventry have beaten Colchester in the first round and demolished Rushden and Diamond 8-0.

Lee Mills is likely to lead the attack on his own with Gary McSheffrey or Jay Bothroyd unlikely to find a place in the starting XI. Julian Joachim could make it onto the bench having only just recently recovered from an ankle injury.

Palace old boys

Shaw, Gordon.

The former Palace fan's favourite has had a bright start to his career in the midlands, winning over the Sky Blues' faithful in no time and showing just why he is regarded so highly. After a career wrought with injuries, Gordon will want to prove he still has what it takes to be a regular in the Premiership and Coventry are doing well at the moment, which looks good for him. He still regards his time at Palace as his fondest moments, but he will be aiming to supply the crosses for the prolific forwards against us on Wednesday.
