Michael Hughes reckons Andy Johnson will leave if Palace fail to win promotion.
Eagles skipper Hughes is realistic about the chances of Johnson being at Selhurst Park next season if the club is still in the Championship.
He admitted the striker is likely to consider his future in the summer and said: "Going up isn't going to harm our chances of keeping him but if we don't I would say we have a battle on our hands.
"It will be up to the club and AJ to decide what happens next.
"The players would obviously prefer him to stay, but he is his own man and it is up to the club to sort that out.
"The club have decisions to make and both sets of parties will have to sit down and deal with them."
