Crystal Palace have been hit by the news that captain Paddy McCarthy will be sidelined for up to six weeks.
McCarthy's groin injury he picked up in pre-season has become inflamed meaning his return has been pushed back.
Dougie Freedman said: "Paddy had an injection a couple of weeks ago and he is still a big worry - we’re looking at six weeks before he is back."
The Eagles have missed McCarthy's presence in the backline, having lost all three league games this term and conceded nine goals in the process.
Palace's defence has had a new look this season with Peter Ramage back at the club alongside the on-loan Aaron Martin in the centre and summer signing Joel Ward on the right.
