Maroaune Chamakh is set to sign a new deal with Crystal Palace.
Chamakh has been free to talk with other clubs after his contract finished at the end of last month.
But Palace co-chairman Steve Parish told the Advertiser he was confident of agreeing fresh terms with the striker.
"We are very close, it's nearly done pretty much," he said. "We hope to get it over the line, that's where we are and we're really positive about it. That would be great."
The 30-year-old scored six times and excelled in the role behind the Cameron Jerome last season, expertly linking up with the midfield.
"I can’t tell you what a great character he is – Marouane is such a lovely, lovely man," Parish continued in the Advertiser.
"He genuinely fought for this football club all year and you can see all the hard work and effort he puts in that certain position.
"He has no big time mentality, he’s a really good asset to the squad and has fitted in really well. Marouane has enjoyed his football this year and we love him at Palace."
