You have however mentioned Wright so you should be familiar with Gray and Thomas, both who were a level above Watson and Ambrose (who were decent enough) Edited by Tom-the-eagle (08 Apr 2020 10.38am)

It's that attempted chip v France at Wembley that cruelly exposed his limitations - Kember was at least as good as Thomas imho, Gray was decent enough, but Johnny Byrne is a legend, more of an attacker than a midfielder (deep lying forward) so Kember and Byrne should be our all time great midfield pairing, not Gray and Thomas who were good players in a bad era imho
