I know there’s a lot of tribal nonsense between Hol and the BBS (I don’t get it), but over on the BBS version of Palace nostalgia at the moment, a thread has started celebrating the 30 year anniversary of our most successful league season ever.

As the anniversary of each game arrives, posters reminisce about their memories of the games. I kept a match by match scrap book from that season, saddo that I am, and so I’m documenting each game with the match reports and pictures.

Just thought if any Holers were going back then, they’d find it a fascinating and enjoyable look back at such a memorable time. I’d post it all up here, but uploading all the reports and pics is quite time consuming, so I’ll just leave the link to the thread here.

I hope I haven’t overstepped some Hol/BBS no go area by doing this.

I still remember the season so clearly. I was involved in producing the Do The Wright Thing video so we got access to training and behind the scenes at games. The camaraderie and the battling 'you'll never beat us' psychology of the team was immense. From back to front they were strong.
Martyn in goal; Young and Thorn rock solid at the back; then Gray & Thomas simply huge in the middle, scrapping for everything. And they could both play a bit too. Then Salako and McGoldrick out wide, getting early balls into Wright and Bright. It worked so well. When we lost our European access, after UEFA backtracked on Liverpool's ban, it was the writing on the wall for Wright to leave for a bigger club. But what a season it was. I recall being tucked away behind our camera at the Whitehorse end during the Southampton game and Geoff Thomas smashed a free kick in the top corner. I've never seen a ball hit so hard. The keeper didn't even flinch. Happy days. Wrighty still talks about the video too!

Reading the BBS made me remember the Luton match that started the season, they still had membership and no away supporters an me and my brother had been chucked out the year before we were only 15 and 16. Over the summer I had been over to watch us play Fiorentina and Sampodira and someone told me that all the Palace supporters were meeting in the Lord Nelson's flagship in Luton before the the game. Remember having Lord nelson's flagship written on my passport as I had nothing else to write it down on. I was paranoid I would be stopped by the French passport control on the way home thinking i was taking the pi55. Can't remember much of the match think it was the Lord Nelson that I started drinking before games the rest of the season was a happy blur.

One supporter of hacking argued that without it "you will do away with the courage and pluck of the game, and I will be bound to bring over a lot of Frenchmen who would beat you with a week's practice -Blackheath secretary at first meeting of the F.A

That moment becomes larger and larger as time moves on for me, Liverpool fans were more wild then Millwalls at that time and caused football massive problems what with fences etc that also led onto them doing it again in that match I will not mention, our team did what they had to do at the time to get into Europe knowing that Liverpool were banned, it should've been decided before the season took off not at the end!!

My wife was clearing out a cupboard yesterday and she took great delight in finding some old newspapers with reviews of a Palace game that I'd forgotten I kept. "Can I throw these out?" she asked. "Can you 'eck!" was roughly my response.

Those cuttings were not just about any old game, but the Liverpool semi win that took us to our first Wembley final. It seems that I bought almost every paper on Monday April 9th 1990 to see the various reports just for the glory of it

My favourite headline was in The Sun - PALACE IN WONDERLAND it shouted. Golden Eagles was the Daily Express lead. A quote from Alan Pardew made me chuckle 'It was like a Sunday morning park game' he said.

Anyway, after avidly reading all those match reports again I am now in full, revved-up, semi-final anticipation mode. I have convinced myself that we can beat Chelsea and reach this year's final.

Oh dear, hope I haven't put the mockers on it!

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.
