At the time though we wouldn't have been too disappointed about Beneteke and he did score 16 goals in the first season. Our transfer have tended to be at the cheaper end being older experienced players , with lower transfer fee, no or little sale on value but higher wages. Eze makes a bit of change to this.
To put it into perspective Brighton had for their first three years in the prem a net transfer spend of £180m which meant they where in the top ten in World football in terms of net spend, behind Man U , Barcalona , PSG , Inter Milan and someone else a can't remember and can't be bothered looking up .

At the time we signed Cabaye, Benteke, and Sakho the policy was to make one marquee signing each summer to boost the profile of the club. Parish stated that we had to pay over the odds to attract them, but the intention was to make a statement that we intended to stay in the premiership and keep improving, rather than just try and stay up by the skin of our teeth.

Now we are stable, Roy had the unenviable job of balancing the books. In his first year he had our best ever squad. Even with departures, I think only BFS had a better squad than we currently do and that was due to a £45m investment plus Sakho (£25m) signed in the January transfer window.

I still think that Brentford's scouting network is one to emulate.

They find a prospect, nurture him and then sell on at a substantial profit.

Apart from Wan Bissaka have we made any profit on players?

I think Toney will add to their profits in a year or two.

And when we look for a replacement to Mr Hodgson the guy at Brentford, as yet unproved, may well be our answer - at least he preaches attractive football.

13 goals in 15 Championship games. Just this start has probably tripled his value. Himself, Maupay, Watkins would all of been worth a punt. Bowen as well would of made a contribution to us if signed. When rumours of a Tekkers extension are touted you do wonder what is going on with our squad improvement. Holding on to players who are frankly shot and not replacing with younger in form talent ?

Ivan Toney could be set to leave Brentford just six months after joining the club from Peterborough, with West Ham reportedly making him their number one January transfer target.

Toney has scored 16 goals in 22 Sky Bet Championship games since making the £10m switch to west London as a replacement for now-Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins.

West Ham have earmarked the 24-year-old as their own replacement for Sebastien Haller, who was sold to Ajax for £20m last week.

They love a championship player, with most of them not working out, or being worth the money they paid.

Are you kidding? We are creaking at the seams. A clear out and fresh blood urgently required.
