The standard of commentary is simply very poor.

Sky have simultaneously dumbed it down and overhyped everything.

I saw an interview with David Jason about only fools and horses where they commented on all the random items around the flat.

He said some of the producers wanted them to bring up the items in conversation, David said that there was no need as the audience were smart enough to spot the joke for themselves. This is the difference between subtle British sit-coms and their American counterparts.

You'd like commentators to use there expertise to mention things the viewer might not pick up on, they don't need to make comment on every pass or mindlessly fill silence with mundane talking.

Less is more.

An astute take on it. I prefer they talk bollhocks, but I’ll settle for the subtle approach.

I much prefer the old days when the commentator told you who was on the ball and very little else

It’s always irritated me when they don’t tell you who’s on the ball for some players or tell you after they’ve passed it and it’s at the nect player or on its way to the next player.

And the pitch divided into numbers so that you could tell where the ball was on your crystal set.

The other day my missus overheard one of these bozos talking about “underlapping runs”. She asked what it meant but I managed to change the subject. It’s bad enough not being able to explain VAR or why this one is offside when that one wasn’t.

All you have to mention is that it’s about not getting to the loo in time. Trust me, she won’t ask again.

Football commentators just make up their own language. Winning three games on the spin is bad enough but I heard someone saying that they had won three games on the bubble.

Tell her it's about 'coming inside'. Perhaps demonstrate.

At a lap-dancing club. The pretty girl pays money to watch a sweaty bald old fella doing a funny little dance.
