I'd sooner see us relegated than play like that every week. It was yet another predictable embarrassment.

I could see the problem as soon as I saw the selections and gap between central midfield and attack at the beginning. Switched over soon after the goal. Nothing missed..... again.

Said about square pegs in round holes before the match. Needed a cohesive team with some passion but not to be. Not surprising under rinse and repeat Roy.

I'm glad people are starting to realise the amount of media friendly s*** he spouts after games.

If you don't watch our games, up until recently it is possible to realise how bad the problems are.

Looking at the Sheffield United game last week. Whilst there scorelines haven't been bad, once teams take a 1-0 lead against them they know there won't be any risk of losing. That's pretty much what it's like playing us. If we don't score in the first 14 minutes, we don't win. If we don't score first, we lose.

Since 'Project Restart', that has been the case (apart from a couple of draws against Spurs). The converse is also true - when we score first, we don't lose (it's been almost 30 games of scoring first since we last got beat).

Last season prior to lockdown, we had a good record of winning points from losing positions (W. Ham twice, Brighton, Citeh, Arsenal, Norwich).

Overhead kick, beats 3 men, scored from one's own half, mazy dribble, multiple passes leading to goal ????
Traore cuts in, given acres of space, no challenge at all and scores from inside the area.

He was outside the box. Agreed poor defending but still an extremely good strike

A couple of seasons old but still a good indicator.

Jimmy Mac has clocked up the most milage in a game for us this season at 33.

In the article, the Palace player with most miles covered in a game was Max Meyer.

Seems like the players are clocking up the miles. One reason for Luka being top in 2019 was lack of rotation.

Obviously this doesn't include sprints but it's still the best indicator I could find.

Other reasons exist which means stats can be manipulated, but there are only so aren't many ways to creatively manipulated a ratio of distance and time.

Conclusion - the way we are set up is a bigger issue than age.

Correct. But why not kill 2 birds with 1 stone and put out a team of 11 with every position with a player who is playing in their favoured position, be it the youngsters and fringe players ? The FA Cup has become so debased now that it is largely a free hit. Think it is clear Roy isn't tough enough with a fair few members of the current squad to do this, producing the shambles like last night.

It was a weird game. It was like we were watching an over-50s walking football team. There was so little movement that players ended up having to constantly pass sideways and backwards. Ayew was the only really dynamic player and he may be knocking on Roy's door ahead of the Arsenal game. Other than that...

PvA stood so far off Traore that I thought he must have some kind of restraining order. McCarthy looked like it was pub closing time and he was looking to start a fight with everyone, and our front two were just useless, summed up when a ball to Batshuayi hit him on the back!

Like most of our cup games under Roy it was a non event and felt more like a training exercise or preseason game. Nuno put out his first team because he said he wants the club to respect the cup. He is one of the few managers left that seems to have that opinion until you get to the quarter-finals.

Roy once said the cup is not the glittering prize it was.

Also, we had a good cup run a few years ago and the club were able to count the beans and assess the relative benefits of progressing.

I suspect we went into last night with that attitude. The cup is not worth the candle.

Thus your description is quite possibly what happened.

I see Hodgson is saying we lost to a Wolves wonder goal. Might be better if he explained why we allowed him the time and space to take that shot. If Mitchell and Schlupp had been down the left side I’m fairly sure they would have been tight on the scorer. Eze in my mind was the culprit in giving him that space to shot. All goals come from mistakes but that was lower league defending. In truth the whole 90 plus minutes were poor by us and we got what we deserved :-(

As we had no shots on target we could of lost to "any" goal!!

Bats was a ridiculous loan signing.
Sakh o s*** injured again - shock horror.

The only player that showed an ounce of fight was McCarthy.

Butland looked good

Mitchell.

I agree Reidewald is grossly overrated, not consistant enough, thats why he doesnt get regular start. He just waved his foot in front of Treore before he shot, instead of getting body in the way.

This square pegs in round holes nonsense, they all played in positions they have before. All the players are extreemly well paid professionals and play in the toughest league in the world.
The real issue is Wolves were for fitter, faster and wanted to win.

The issue is the combination of the 2 strikers and 2 midfielders, plus Ayew on one of the wings. We stood very little chance and that’s what happened. Batshuayi imo has never been any good in the middle third and won’t link up play between midfield and Benteke at all.
