But to make that meaningful, one would surely have to have a minimum number of appearances, otherwise a goalscoring sub who played a minute would have 1 goal in 1 minute played.

Put him on from the beginning -thats 90 goals a game! I would take him back if the price was right, he got emotional after he came back and got clapped, obviously loves the place, worth a punt just for that Liverpool 3-3 draw!

If it's on a free then fine by me to give him a run. Even at 31 his game to goal ratio can't really be worse than Bentekes nor can his positional awareness be worse than Batshyaui's.

He might even show more energy than what was shown vs Wolves.

There was a young lad at Crawley today who looked to be on a par with our strikers. Div 4.

Which player are you referring to?

I think we have to move in from bringing Gayle back. He is in his thirties and only an average goal scorer in the PL. We have enough of them already!

In hindsight, a great decision to get rid of him at the time, not (wasn't it clueless Al ??), especially as he was the best finisher in the club at the time.
What we have been endured in terms of forwards and goalscoring since, makes his return on a free not the worst piece of business ever.
Certainly a cut above Ayew Wickham Bamford Sanogoals Tosun Sorloth et al !

To be fair at the time it was the sensible decision. Think we had brought benteke in who got a very impressive goal tally thay year (think about 16 in the league) and we had wickham and Campbell as back so at the time and after one season it def was the right choice. Its just everything after that obviously hasn't / didnt go to plan for those three strikers

Not true (the 31 year old part is). He’s scored everywhere he’s been, he’s just not had much of a run out. Get him on the pitch for 90 mins every game and he’ll get 10+ a season

Why do you think he has not had much of a run out in the PL if he is such a goal machine? Don’t want this to happen but Parish May do it for the fans. Although I believe he is on approximately £80k pw. We should move on from him

I must be missing something here. Dwight is an average goal scorer at the top level who has very little else to his game. If he came on low wages as our 4th striker I’d be fine with this but nothing else.

100%

I can't answer that, but its a bit like Reidewald being our best CM but not getting a game.

It can't be denied that he's scored everywhere he's been when he's on the pitch. Some have said there's not much else to his game but the primary job of a striker is to stick it in the onion bag, which he does.

I do wonder if there may be an attitude problem or perhaps he is lazy in training. It does seem strange that it seems every time he helps a team to the PL they then don’t play him or even try to sign him

I liked Gayle when he was with us, but from what I remember he only ever seemed to have an impact off the bench. When he did start he was often anonymous. A great impact player, but given his age I think we need to look elsewhere.
