Is this post a windup?

He’s scored nine goals in three and a half seasons!

I don’t care how good his link up play is, he’s a 30 million pound centre forward.

He needs to score

A pity it is 4 seasons too late, with many millions wasted on his ridiculous wage with very little in return. It's quite amazing that one financial gamble (big money signing) has held the club back so much. When he took the ball from Luka for that penalty he should have been dropped, but the club had no one in place, such was the shortsightedness of placing all of ones eggs in one basket.
To put into context how useless this bloke is, Ayew scored the same amount last season as this plank has scored in four.

You have to make your mind up to whether it's our manager alone who's holding the club up or as you've nicely put it it some of our players.

It's a mix of both. To Roy Hodgson's credit he has done the job of keeping us in the PL, however he does have his failings which have been mentioned here by many. However, I'm going to cut Roy some slack: having the completely inept Benteke up front must be immensely frustrating for a manager. That said, Roy does seem to prefer him at the moment over other options, which makes Benteke's failings his (Roy's) responsibility.

possibly has improved but theres no way hes got himself back to a consistent level of performance. We've just changed reduced our expectations of him. His touch is horrific. With the ball at his feet the amount of times he looses possession is so frustrating. We need an upgrade. IMO.

This is what it comes down to IMO. He's a centre forward who can't control a ball or score but has a modicum of defensive and nuisance value because of his size. He's sh!t.

He is useful and I thought he was ok last night. However, a couple of times, he beat a player in the middle of the park but then his control and passing let him down. TBF he does at least look like he is trying to rectify matters.
Not sure I agree with some of the criticism aimed at Ayew, ideal player to bring on in the circumstances, can hold the ball, best players and wins free kicks but yes, should have made more of Kate chance

Ayew is woeful..!!

The post is " return to form ".

The post will only wind up those who don't read well.

And I had him at 10/1 to score against West Ham when all faith was lost

Fully agree, not forgetting he could not convert even one of the six chances he had in the match, he may win headers sometimes but they hardly ever find a team mate and his work rate is poor when off the ball!

CB has certainly improved recently, but the clue is in the title.. striker! 3 goals including a tap in, is not good enough at this level. That said, a strikers role is not just scoring...would that he did... but flick ons, hold up play etc, which he does pretty well, and he is a decent target when we use the flanks. I just wish he would use his ample frame and get stuck in. He is lightweight. One thing that he and the rest of the squad are guilty of is not shooting. Stats shown on Sky last night show Patrick Bamford top of the ‘shots attempted’ (28!) and his goal tally is resultant of same. H Kane was 2nd. The lucky deflection HK got against us proves the point, we don’t shoot enough!
Aside from an ageing team, that frequently give the ball away, get outpaced in most positions, and regularly sit back rather than press ( as we actually did against the Gooners), we are not a bad side!

Keep the faith.

To me, return to form is when he scores 18 goals again in one season, not 9 in 4 seasons

He still has a heck of a lot to do in the rest of the season if he is going to make up for the paucity of his contributions in the last 3 years, and to convince me he has found his form.

For me he doesn't have the niggling aggression that majority of good centre forwards have. I don't see him making a nuisance of himself around the opposition penalty area. He's a big bloke and should be putting the fear of god up defenders.

If Benteke had just joined for £30 mil we would all be saying what a load of rubbish.Yes he has improved but that was not difficult , I think his only use is that he takes some of the physical side of the game away from Wilf.
I think the new position for Wilf has been bought about because of our lack of someone to play as a lone striker.Benteke is a lump up front his all round play is poor and he fails to find space particularly by using the wings to drag defends away to allow for Wilf and Eze through that middle area.
Hope this makes sense to some of you.
