Funny you should say that. The convention of collective responsibility used to mean the elected boss fell on the sword. Now they will find a suitable civil servant to take the blame.

Many Senior Cuvil Servants get knighted, politically motivated now ( despite what some on here think) even more, at all levels get some sort of gong but you have to have brown nosed for years. Not too low a level if you don�t mind! Many Senior Cuvil Servants get knighted, politically motivated now ( despite what some on here think) even more, at all levels get some sort of gong but you have to have brown nosed for years.

Agreed it was the convention, that doesn't mean it was right people need to be accountable for their decisions. They are happy to take the salary and the kudos that comes with the job. You say that CS are scapegoats how many actually are fired for bad decisions?

They always have recourse to law if they get treated unfairly.

It is about time that the Civil Service were held accountable and sacked for their ridiculous errors be they by accident or deliberately.
Ministers being held accountable for something outside of his/her control has always been a stupid move and gives politically motivated publicly paid officials the opportunity to screw someone.
To delete this lot by accident would be some feat!
