Why only seven subs?

Hodgson could not even be bothered to fill the bench up with the requisite nine subs. Why did he not put a couple of the under 23's on there?? We all know he does not have any interest in blooding young players, but this borders on arrogance. I do often think this gentlemanly image he portrays is a complete facade. I remember seeing that clip of him talking to that reporter when he was West Brom manager and it was totally out of order, even if it was a silly question. I'm sick of his negativity, always picking his same favourites, never trying different tactics and the late substitutions. Anyone else falling out of love with the club?

Because the U23s are playing a league game against Fulham at 13.00 today.

This isn't a reason though, right? U23s main aim is to develop players well enough to be part of the first team.

If an opportunity arises at the last minute, you don't hold players opportunity back because you have a game.

An U23 game should not be taking priority over a premier league gam surely? However, Hodgson knows he would never put them on the field so probably sees it as pointless.

But surely giving them premiership experience on match day even if unused subs is better than leaving them at home and having only 7 subs ?

Why?

Would a youngster prefer to be dragged all the way up to Manchester knowing that he had no chance of playing rather than just taking it easy at home

Travelling with the first team and continuing to forge relationships, being involved in andhearing the match-day team talks, integration into dressing room, learning game plans and how change of tactics occur under the first team coaches - esentially being on the inside and learning about the game day logistics.

How does that plus many other factors I haven't mentioned/don't know about not benefit a young player and their development?

Also, it would instil confidence into the players that are called upon.

I think you make a very good point especially with C19 regulations surely they would have to self isolate and have two negative c19 tests before they could even join the first team bubble!

We could have 70 subs and used all of them, and still got hammered.

Not if we used them all at the same time

I think all prem teams have to keep there squads separate due to C19.

This would imply we don't have a single U23 player who we consider good enough to be training and be part of the senior team bubble - which is disappointing if true
