• Lampard’s relationship with influential director Marina Granovskaia deteriorated
• Ralf Rangnick was offered interim job last week for four months but turned it down
• Calls were made in recent weeks to sound out Leipzig’s Julian • Nagelsmann before deal was struck with Thomas Tuchel
• Leicester game was tipping point and morning after spent trying to finalise successor
• Lampard shook players hands and thanked them for efforts under him after Leicester match
• Petr Cech involved in talking to new stars’ agents as form dipped
• Some players complained about lack of tactical instruction and not being spoken to for months
• Desire to re-sign Declan Rice annoyed his bosses
• The dressing room felt manager showed no empathy and were hurt by his public criticism
• Lampard would have walked out had he been working for any club other than Chelsea

"The problem was, the manager didn’t talk to the players — well only the ones he liked,” one such source explains. “I know of players who weren’t in the team that didn’t hear from him for many months. That’s very frustrating for a player because you don’t know what you have to do to do better, what the manager is thinking. It’s crazy."

"There was also a feeling that as form started to dip that the regular changes to the starting line-up prevented players from building a system and confidence. The squad, for example, could all see how talented Werner is but were horrified to see the confidence drain out of him as he was put in and out of the starting XI."

"Lampard was accused in some quarters of working players too hard, dating back to the preparations in June, ahead of last season getting back under way following the three-month postponement. Indeed, despite Chelsea’s fixture list this season regularly involving matches in midweek as well as the weekend, the 42-year-old was spotted still putting on intense drills. As one individual remarked: “There was a worry that not only were Chelsea players getting exhausted but it would take a toll with people getting more injuries.”

“From what I can tell, he felt it was like pissing against the wind. He experienced difficult relationships with a lot of people and wasn’t always sure who he could trust. He would have a conversation with one person but wasn’t sure what they’d be saying about him afterwards. He found the politics hard, a constant battle.”

“When things are going wrong at Chelsea, you will also find there are many people that will be happy to blame anything but their own area. It is something Lampard was trying to change, but it was going to take time. It is a deeply sat problem that has been there for many years."

"A facet against Lampard was the defensive record last season — they conceded 54 times, which was the worst record in the top half of the Premier League. Only three teams conceded more from set pieces (15). The additions of Chilwell, Silva and Mendy have seen an improvement in both departments despite the recent downturn."

Thank you very much.
I found the article very enlightning.

the point made by the big post on here is excellent, but we do need a bit of an overhaul - none of Luka, or the two macs should be here in September - maybe M<Arthur for one more year but he'd have to be a squad player at best - at the moment he's our main man, and much though I admire and cherish his service, that is not a viable state of affairs if we wish to remain in the prem. There's a lot of dead wood on big money which does need to go - replacing the dead wood is not as easy as we might hope, but if we overdo continuity we will hasten our decline.

I should qualify that by explaining he's our main man in midfield.

Besides him being young, English and a great ex-player, I’m just wondering what people have seen to suggest Frank Lampard is a good manager, and that he’d succeed at a Premier League club on a budget of £2 a season.

We're the Arthur over ere!

People wanting Lampard as our manager really need to wise up. Have a look at the players he has at his disposal. One of the most expensive squads in world football with some unbelievable talent and he has managed to get them playing like rag ball rovers.

I would rather 5 more years of Roy than Frank Lampard. Lampards career as a top level manager is over.

Dont mince your words Frank in or not ?

I think Luka still has a couple of years on his contract and at 29, I don't see him going anywhere come the season end unless we get a tempting offer. Of the two Macs, McCarthy is at least two years younger than McArthur (who's 33 and struggling with the pace of the game imo). Can't see both going this summer unless we bring in at least one replacement and Kouyate is able to revert to midfield. For me, it's about how many the club feel they can afford to let go and how that is balanced between the different positions. We do ahve several defenders who may be deemed as coming to the end of usefulness.

He comes across as a passionate and bright guy. The mistake seems to have been to throw money at the squad and expect everything to just come together; whether that was his fault or the club's I don't know. Last season they did ok and he got the youngsters and some of the squad players playing well. This season he's thrown many of them aside in favour of the shiny new things and I imagine that has created disharmony. You look at what Ole has achieved by being given time at United when many people thought he was out of his depth and it could be argued that they pulled the trigger too quickly on Frank. Having said that, you got the feeling when he got the job it was only because they had a transfer embargo.

I don't think it will be too long before he gets a PL or Championship job again, or possibly one abroad. Would I want him at Palace? No, probably not. I don't think he fits within the Palace DNA.
