Emma Raducanu has risen to #23 in the WTA ranking list, as a result of her US Open win following on from reaching the last 16 of Wimbledon. Bear in mind that a player's ranking is based on their accumulated tournament performances over the previous 12 months. Her ranking at the start of 2021 was #345.

I wonder if shes a hard court or grass player? She can obviously do both, but they usually prefer one over the other, she certainly looked good on the hard court. Shes home in Bromley now, must be surreal after 3 weeks away, she needs a couple of days to just sit with folks and let it sink in.

Can you imagine how fame might impact her home life now ? I know we have Covid restrictions, but all the recognition she will now receive going about her everyday stuff will obviously be noticeable. autographs , selfies etc, is going to have (hopefully a positive) impact.

Just as long as greedy agents or, even worse, greedy family members as well as 'friends', stick their oar in & try to get a large slice of HER pie & i mean financial, NOT what most of this thread was alluding to.

Apparently she has the same manager as Sharapova had. They said during the US open that although she did a lot of other side projects that she always made tennis her priority so hopefully Emma can do the same.

Both her parents are money traders in the City, so hopefully clued up with regard to looking after her money.

From various reports it sounds as if she already has plenty of professional support and when she was 17 a company called Harbour 6 was established to manage her finances.

Just hope, for her sake, the sudden fame and wealth that comes with it, doesn't impact adversely on her charming, girl next door persona.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Noticed in an Evening Standard article that Raducanu does watch football. No mention of a team though.

I so hope some young man is poking her though as we are all perverts for thinking she would be a good rub out.

This girl is exceptional. She speaks Chinese and probably Rumanian. She speaks the Queens English and she is already at 18 a world champ in a major sport. She is really very special. And she is probably a Palace fan. Happy days. At least invit her down to the Brighton game so she can see what 25000 are like at Palace compared to New York.

Emma the Eagle ? She even wore our colours at New York.

With the languages already in her head, she could crack French & Spanish in the blink of an eye. Thus being able to do telly interviews that reach out to a World Audience of nearly 3 billion souls.

That could give her Sports-celebrity that would shame Beckham, Tiger Woods or even talented linguist Novak Djokovic.

Money ? As scumbag Conor McGregor has shown, its all about selling T-shirts, drinks & cosmetics.

imagine having a bigger brand recognition than croydon's Kate Moss or Streatham's Naomi Campbell or even Cindy Crawford. money money money.

She was asked this by Zoë Ball on Radio 2 this morning. She said that she loved grass court tennis for its traditions (ie 3 out of the 4 majors used to be on grass and Wimbledon remains the greatest tourney of them all) but she was brought up on hard courts, and has played most of her tennis on hard courts; consequently hard court is her best surface.
