Not Bermuda he didnt, thank god

Mind you, the amount of 'off-shore' accounts held on the islands from all over the world, even Elon Musk couldn't buy Bermuda, let alone Branson.

Sometimes I feel like holidays abroad are a lot of bother.
Now I'm older, it seems like hard work.

We did plan a drive through Europe and down through Italy and back this year but COVID pay to that. To be honest, I have as much a feeling of trepidation as I do enthusiasm about holidays like that now.
You have to do this stuff because you are a long time dead, but a nice, cosy stay in Cornwall seems like quite a pleasant alternative. As long as I don't bump into Wisbech.

I agree with you Hrolf. The older I get, the less inclined I am to go through all the hassle of travel abroad.

Seen quite a few places and quite satisfied thanks. Might possibly have taken the car to France one more time, but just can't find the enthusiasm for it anymore. Mainly due to Covid risk.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

I am the opposite as the older I get the more time I have to organize an overseas holiday, not that I find it takes much planning.

In non covid times I don't really find it much of a hassle either. research and book villa, buy flights and rent car.

I must admit that there is more hassle this year with all these wretched covid tests that you have to take which are also a bit of a con.

We came back from Kefalonia a week and had to have antigen tests before we returned which was 165 euros for the three of us plus PCR tests within two days of our return which was a further £120.

We are off to Lanzarote in four weeks so that's probably another large lump for tests unless Boris scraps them before we go

Just got back from a 10 tour of Scotland by rail and road through Railbookers. Great holiday when you see the Highlands you understand why the Scots are so proud of their country.

I booked this after 4 holidays had been cancelled by the tour operator the latest being Israel in October. I love traveling but I have given up now I would love to go to Uzbekistan in the spring but who knows, it's wait and see for now.

As for all the testing nonsense if you have had both jabs then a simple LFT at the airport going and coming should be sufficient.

It's not the organisation, it's the physical rigours of travelling and all the usual holiday bothers.
There was a time when driving for hundreds of miles or doing long haul was fine, but now it just seems like a lot of discomfort and stress.

Maybe I will regain some enthusiasm when we hit the foreign holiday trail again.

Scotland is a nice place to live as well Badger. Houses are much more affordable, the people are friendly and the beer is much cheaper as well, as you say, as some beautiful scenery.
It took me a bit of time to adjust to strangers being friendly without wondering A. How is this bloke trying to stitch me up? Or B. Is this a nutcase?
It also took a while to get over my innate London impatience in shops and appreciate that people actually speak to each other rather than being in a constant rush.

I love the UK. Honeymooned on the Isle of Skye, love Scotland and Wales especially, and have got into caravanning for weekends away, but equally I really miss hot weather, cheap beer/food and crucially the feel of being in a different culture.

I love learning the lingo, soaking up the atmosphere and finding new places. As nice as places in the UK are, to me it's just not the same holiday experience by a long shot.

Nowadays I won't fly further than four hours as my bum can't take any more than that and I don't do long distance driving either for the same reasons as you

It annoys me that the term "staycation" - which used to mean having time off work but not actually going anywhere ("I'm going to Stopathome on holiday" etc etc) - has now come to mean taking a holiday in the United Kingdom, and it's often used in a somewhat derogatory way, belittling those who choose not to holiday abroad.

In my household the term for taking a holiday in the UK has always been: "holiday".

I hate hearing that term used by some people, this country can not match going abroad.

Going abroad as in Europe or ROW? If you're talking comparing a trip to south america with a trip to Scotland, fine. But if you are comparing a trip to the Costa Del Brits or an equivalent butlinised area of a European country, then the UK certainly has way more to offer. With the right weather, the North Coast of Ireland, Cornwall, Scilly Isles and the West coast and islands of Scotland, but to mention a few, are absolutely spectacular.

Did you know? 98.0000001% of people are morons.

Yet I feel holidays in this country is more bother. I love the all inclusive where you get picked up from the airport and taken to your destination. Not having to bother with buying food/drinks as well and then the excursions to other parts of the country you are staying in. Plus you get the sun :-) It seems holidays in this country requires you to drive distances and makes more hassle/tiredness? Happy to do both types of holidays but those abroad seem easier to this old geezer :-)
