Is he ever going to play for us again? Signs dont look good, injured last season for a longtime, now out again for months, suggested return dates come and have gone. Now we are looking to bring in D Van de Beek.

Again, that's a bit hyperbole

Maybe, but he missed half of last season, now going to miss half this one or more. Injuries for a 34 year old tend to take a longtime to heal, sometimes never the same again. Unfortunately time isnt on his side.

It is

That said age and injury history suggest that he shouldn’t perhaps be considered as a regular. There are a few of his vintage around and sports science means careers can continue well into the 30s nowadays but the likes of Milner and Noble are used sparingly.

Think it’s optimistic to regard him as being able to play week in week out. And it was perhaps force of circumstances that persuaded PV to push him early season.

Now Hughes is up to speed perhaps his best role might be 70 minute sub. That’s not an inconsiderable role given the points we’ve spunked late on

That and I see him on the coaching team at some stage.
