The more players we have playing for England the easier it will be to attract players of a similar standard, if going to Palace is seen as a blocker to an International call up then the quality of player that will come reduces. AWB did not get a lookin while at Palace but as soon as he moved to Man U straight in the Squad

It’s money that attracts players, that’s why when they play for England, they want to leave us. Any slight chance of getting Gallagher to sign has now well and truly gone.

In August 2019, Wan-Bissaka received his first call-up to the senior England team, ahead of UEFA Euro 2020 qualifiers against Kosovo and Bulgaria, but was forced to withdraw from the squad due to a back injury.

I don't think AWB has ever been called up - fans of clubs like ours have such a chip on their shoulder about this sort of thing.

I stand corrected!

Although the fact he's never been called up since suggests Southgate is just not particularly a fan (whether he plays for Palace or United)

Rice and Phillips are key players in this team and both play for teams outside the big 6 - if you're good enough, you generally get picked.

In my opinion neither are ready for the top level just yet. It is a step up again (well, against the top teams it is but not against the likes of San Marino).

Should be looking at next season and the next tournament before they will have the right amount of experience.

I also think Gallagher is not ready to play against the top teams. He looked ok against San Marino but nothing more. It looked for a lot of the time that he was searching to find the correct position on the pitch. That positioning will come to him naturally when he gains more experience.

I tend to agree for a couple of reasons - one is Gallagher and his final ball/shot, it's a bit 50/50; better than the rest of our team arguably, but maybe not quite Chelsea standard or international top side standard. The other thing about Gallagher is his fouls. I don't think Southgate is into the tough challenges which Gallagher likes. Quite easy to get cards against sides such as Italy, Spain or Argentina - particularly with the histrionics. He's great for us, not sure about other teams (sorry). His effort and determination are for all to see - his pressing and workrate are his top qualities.
As for Guehi, he lacks aerial ability in my opinion. He might have fitted into Chelsea, as a ball playing defender but he's no big centre half - which, again, Southgate seems to favour.
The hype is there, but I think personally both could improve on aspects of their game. I feel harsh, just my opinion.

If either player made the squad for Qatar I imagine it would only be due to injuries. Guehi perhaps has more chance due to his role as captain of the U21s.

If he can recover his fitness and form from the end of last season then I think Eze might actually have the best chance of making the squad as he offers something a bit different and his quality and composure on the ball means he would likely slip seamlessly into the England setup. He was also on the shortlist for the Euros as well of course.

I know what you mean about Gallagher, at the minute he is all energy, and that gets him the rub of the green. He doesn't ooze class.

Id also agree on Guehi lacking aerial ability, but given the direction of the modern game I don't think its an issue. Especially playing alongside someone like Maguire.

Agree with this.

Yes for Marc, a little to early for TM. Especially considering how attacking top full backs play. England probably have the best suite of fullbacks in world football.

Agree TM is still short as an attacking fullback. That said England are very rich on the right - mostly from Chelsea! - but much less so on the left where there’s Chilwell and Shaw and not too much else. Can’t see him displacing either of them but could conceivably be in standby behind them one day.

Guehi may get near the squad in the future if there's a couple of injuries at CB, can't see Mitchell ever getting close to the England squad, never even featured for the youth sides before where as Marc captains the U21s every now and again.

Agree on Gallagher - I think he's fairly average technically

Guehi has won 60% of his aerial duels so far this season, which is not bad - better in terms of success rate and quantity compared with Anderson, for example.

For more context, White is about 52%, Mings is about 60% and Dunk also bang on 60%, so I wouldn't agree he's particularly weak in this area.

Of course he can and will still improve, but I think for a 20 year old playing his first season at this level, he's been unbelievably impressive - even amongst the Ezes and Olises, I think Guehi is our best prospect.

Can get him at 8/1 to make the World Cup squad next year... tempting.

Disagree with the bit in red, Maguire was/is/always will be a liability. MG would be far better alongside Stone or Coady, even Mings at a push.
