I think our most pressing need is a CDM and Donny van de Beek is not that.

I agree. He looks a real talent, but as an attacking midfielder. It would also be a further obstacle to Eze getting back in the middle where he belongs. If there's no option to buy then it seems an expensive luxury given where we are right now, as United would no doubt want a decent loan fee plus his wages. Having said that if he did come then a midfield of Gallagher, van de Beek and Hughes could potentially shine, albeit while being a bit lightweight.

If McArthur isn't going to be fit any time soon, I think this becomes a no brainer of a loan signing.

If Gallagher or Hughes got injured now, we're looking very light of quality options in midfield to play a passing game. Riedewald and Luka clearly aren't fancied, so we basically have Kouyate, Schlupp, Hughes, Gallagher, Eze which is fine if they all stay fit and an issue if they don't. It should also help bed in this style of play - if a £35m Ajax graduate can't play it, no-one can. You'd also hope he'd be as good as any of that list and get us the points to increase that prize money.

To do well in the cup, we'll have to play a fair few midweek games and whilst VDB is cup-tied, it'd allow us to rotate out the others in league games.

The option to buy isn't all that important - we can sort out the midfield in the summer.

First Ramsey, then van de Beek for more midfielders. What about a fresh right back to start with?

I believe these are the old rules! From what i understand they changed this year. Below from the Premier League website:

"Premier League clubs may not register more than two players on loan at any one time"

We are allowed two loans from British clubs and any number from abroad.

That is correct, that is for domestic loans. International loans are different, tho FIFA want to curb the number of loans to, i believe, 6 per club.

Would be nice wouldn't it??... I struggle to understand how Ward commands a 1st team place every week.

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!

I think this is the salient point We miss Mcarthur - Riedewald and Luka are very defensive minded much more than Mcarthur. Both Hughes and Gallagher can play more defensive but we then lose their attacking skills. Eze is not currently good enough defensively and is not fully fit

I think we are looking at creating a more mobile central midfield trio who can all tackle and win the ball but also switch defence into attack.

I think if Eze was fully fit we may have pushed Gallagher back a bit and that may be how we play next season with Eze as the most attacking midfield behind the striker. Van De Beek may be a good short term answer

A classy addition with no long-term commitment is an attractive prospect, as long as the cost of the locan deal doesn't preclude us from filling some of the more obvious holes.

With you on this. Prefer him to Ramsey. And no real down side on loan. With an option to buy if it works out would be handy. I think he'll have a point to prove, wherever he goes next.
