But when Arsenal play Crystal Palace (for example), there is absolutely no excuse for a national newspaper previewing the game with just one mention of the name of the home team and no further references. The vast majority of the readers ("customers" ) of that national newspaper are NOT Arsenal supporters, so whose needs does the paper think it is addressing? I would suggest that more of its readers would have been supporting Crystal Palace than Arsenal, therefore in not giving those people what THEY want, they are - by definition - exhibiting bias. I agree with a lot of what you are saying. I think that many journos are pretty lazy and will have a better knowledge of bigger clubs and their issues than the likes of Palace. Hence, that's what they write about and comment upon. I'm not sure if the BBC's current affairs remit of 'balance' applies in sport. However, I remember in years gone by on FA Cup Final Day, that its coverage of each team's preparations, route to the final, celebrity fans etc. etc. was pretty much the same.

But he could have been better. He was thought by many to be better than both Messi and Ronaldo at 18/19. Look where that comparison went. He scored goals for England but in so many mickey mouse games. In the important tough games he rarely shone through. If he'd had Ronaldo's ambition and drive he'd have been the greatest British footballer ever. He settled for being the biggest fish in the English pond with a fondness for booze, smokes and minge (like most of us).
I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything. |
