I can understand those who say 'big deal' and he could say nothing and just turn up for the Blackpool POTY Awards with his boyfriend. Then there would be a media frenzy. Whereas now he has taken ownership. As RH says he will do well out of it. And apparently he is good at putting the ball in the net. Are you watching PV? That would spice up our Brighton matches.

At the end of the day all anyone really wants is to be allowed to live their life freely without persecution. If it really was widely accepted to be a gay footballer then this wouldn't even make the local news let along the national.

To treat this situation seriously I really have to point out that this has absolutely nothing to do with football. This is about identity politics. I have no issue with that within politics itself however this is meant to be sport. However, we don't get a choice, whether it's football or cricket or anything we are forced to listen to what organisations and activists think the common supporter should think about issues. They have as much right to do that as I have to tell them what they should think.....but as we have seen with BLM they can't keep politics out of sport and want to virtue signal and divide inside it. I do understand the thinking behind a lot of the statements however I don't think it relative here, as it stands. I don't like the politicisation of such things to any extent, especially football. If this lad's announcement leads to players 'bending the wrist' for a moment before games, claims of him being discriminated against when he's subbed/carded or anything else, a 'bring a gay friend to the Palace day' or rainbow flags infesting stadiums then yes, there will be some sincere grievances raised from me. However, I do not see it as such, as things stand. He's a young fella, still technically a child on the brink of adulthood, and if he chooses to announce he is who he is to get it off his chest, live his life healthily and so forth well then the best of luck to him. Another possibility is him not saying anything, being deeply unhappy and something tragic happening such as topping himself or living a sad life outside of football etc. My hope is that this blows over quickly, people don't become so inclined to abuse him horrendously from the stands, I'd happily see any good humoured teasing but that's probably a crime these days, and he goes on to have a career valued on his footballing merit as opposed to identity without any real abuse. I think jumping on it to express, via a glottal stop, 'Arghaahhhah, they're taking over football' or so called 'movements' hijacking it to try and promote their own bonkers ideologies would be a tragedy for the youngster and the game. Hasn't happened yet so I'm therefore inclined to say fair play, good for him, now let's move on. In my experience football fans only care about their team winning. If a player is rubbish or not seen to be putting a shift in he will get pelters and fans will pick on an obvious personal trait e.g. you fat bar steward or baldy etc.

Yep I agree.

I consider radical, ideological, hateful groups to be very much hand in hand with the media for a collaborative effort to sensationalise anything that doesn't fit with their own agendas/narrative or indeed could be highlighted to help boost their illogical activities.
