If rules were in place that when one person comes over, they can't bring their family over then people wouldn't need to do it. If they didn't want to be apart from their families they wouldn't come. Loophole after loophole is what is being exploited. They all need to be shut down quickly. One quick immigration bill in line with Australia or New Zealand and there you go. The constant flow of third rate people entering the country can end.
As for skills shortages - talk about a red herring. Train the dole people. Give people on disability a chance. There's a workforce of millions doing literally nothing in the UK. Retrain or welfare cuts.

Exactly I would rather pay an employer taxpayer money to hire someone on disability.

Everyone wants to stop the illegals. It’s doing it in a way which doesn’t conflict with our international treaty obligations and without risking the consequences of doing so which is the difficulty.

Although it produces the biggest headlines illegal immigration is only a relatively small part of the whole though.

Unless you want to stop families being together by stopping the family route, denying universities vital income from overseas students and our industries, especially the health and social care sector, from being staffed you simply cannot limit the numbers in the way you seek. It’s not possible.

Denying any British citizen their right of abode on the basis of their heritage is a really bright idea. Good luck with that.

Overseas students are getting places ahead of British students who can't afford the fees. That is not serving Britain.

I don't care a hoot about people who should not be here in the first place bringing their families over. I care about the effect that current policy will have on mine in the future.

More people require more industry and health care. A vicious circle.

If you are a criminal, I don't care what your passport says.
You wouldn't say that a European born in China was Chinese. This is just another double standard nonsense.
We have a duty to British people, and being born here does not make you British by itself, other than on a piece of paper. I don't say that stealing a push bike should get you deported, but if you act against British interests by involving yourself in terrorism or organised crime then you should be booted out back to your country of origin regardless of birth location.

In Ireland, we now have the Orwellian language..... 'new irish' which seems to be bestowed upon every foreigner who walks from the Airplane to the terminal building. And if they look like the little green fellas in 'Mars Attacks' then you are a racist for pointing that out.
And if they 'queue jump' you for any public services, you are just being a difficult Prima Donna.

The only overseas types who seem to struggle to be officially accepted in Ireland are Murphy's, Kelly's & Reilly's who speak with a South London accent.

Where’s the evidence for your assertion that British students are missing out because of overseas ones? I have not seen any.

I am not talking about those who shouldn’t be here bringing their families over. I am talking about those who are entitled to be here. Including British citizens who have family members living elsewhere.

Criminals deserve punishment. Those here illegally need to be deported. Those here legally not.

However we fill vacancies other support services need to be provided.

People become as British as you and me the moment they swear allegiance to the Crown. That’s the law. Campaign for change if you wish but right now we all, you included, must respect it.

so a ( insert angry religion ) fella just off the banana boat who cannot speak English ? he is more British than a Christian/atheist Murphy living in Northern Ireland ?

fair enough. And if the same fella lands at Dublin Airport he will suddenly be more irish than the UK dwelling Murphy in LondonDerry....the city with the six silent letters.

i feel sorry for the Murphy, nobody wants him.

The highlighted text is the biggest crock. Why on earth would you even think to post that ? And you know I'm not talking about the legal point, so please don't argue over technicalities.

Being a dual US-UK citizen I did pledge allegiance to the American flag! I take pride in where I live and my take seriously my civil responsibilities!

That said I am British and will always be so just choose to live in foreign lands! My transition (no political puns please) happened many years ago but nowadays sharing similar ideals and fundamentals is optional and ultimately leads to unnecessary conflict!

No one can achieve British citizenship before 5 years residency, several stages of visa approval, verification of competency in English and passing the “Life in the UK test”.

No banana boat arrivals need apply.

It’s posted because it’s true. The legal position is the fundamental starting point to establishing the emotional one. How can any connection and pride be built unless the legal protection is established?
