A bournemouth friend of mine sent me this contribution from the cherries forum after their result yesterday:

"Well that was something else. It was not a contest, a match or even a game. A squad of highly motivated, highly skilled footballers, organised into an efficient team and up to 11 tourists from Bournemouth, running around after them, probably asking if they could swap shirts but never getting close enough : (
Halftime I asked a steward if they had any seats with a better view. She replied " not for you love. They all all face the pitch" : )
As the Grateful Dead song goes, " Nothing left to do but smile, smile smile"

Kind of puts things into perspective a tad after our overall performances over both 'pool & Citeh away!

On the coach back from OUR 9-0 drubbing, I did a pretend wake-up-with-a-startle routine. Hyperventilating, I cried out: "Oh God! I've just had a terrible dream"

"What is it?" asked my mate.

"It was terrible...I dreamt that I was on the long coach journey back from Anfield after we'd been hammered TEN-nil! What a relief to wake up to reality!"

You probably had to be there, but it was all in the timing!

Later that season, on the way up to Villa Park for the FA Cup semi, we were overtaken on the M1 by a car full of Palace fans. Blu Tak-ed in the rear window was a hand-written note that said:. ABACUS ON BOARD.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

When we were suffering the same fate in 1989, it became quite an enjoyable night once Liverpool got to 5 or 6, we stopped caring and the gallows humour chants started kicking in, we always said when we hit the post at 3-0 and GT missed a pen at 6-0 it could all have been different

After the last minute play off final defeat against Leicester "Claridges's knee" I was on a packed tube train with hundreds of other disconsolate Palace fans when one spoke up

"Cheer up lads it not the end of the world"

He was lucky not to be lynched.

We sang 'we're gonna score in a minute, score in a minute' for ages. We also heartily cheered each Palace or Liverpool pass and started celebrating the Liverpool goals in a heavily over the top way. A brilliant away day - unfortunately not matched by the result.

This one did not cheer me up - although it was attended by the Tango man.

Away to Oxford United at the Manor Ground in December 1984. We are 5-0 down and the Oxford fans are chanting: "We want six! We want six!"

As soon as they stopped came the reply from the Palace fans: "We want ONE! We want ONE!" Then one Palace wag shouted the word "corner!".

Indeed we were not that far from him I remember him running up and down the stairs.

That was about the best part of the day. I didn't even drink my sorrows that day. I have the t-shirt somewhere - full of holes, starting to biodegrade. A reminder of what Palace used to be before the shiny, new us. I wear it as a lucky charm: reverse psychology.

On that note, given that Celtic also just hit 9... why doesn't anyone ever get ten?

I blame Mo Salah.

I do actually look back at that game quite fondly and have always been proud to say I was there. It was a bit of a nightmare for me as well because I had my leg in plaster, but still strangely enjoyed the day

I think we can also be proud of the way the team recovered from that, it was a massive reality check. A few days later we travelled away to a good saints side, dug in and got a point
