I fully agree if they can get forward well it's a massive bonus of course but is not a requisite of the job for me. I feel the likes of Guardiola have tainted the commercial football 'fans' to believe that full backs should also double up as wingers and should be flying forward with the ability to produce De Bruyne-esque crosses, beat players like Wilf can, hit free kicks like Roberto Carlos and get double digit goals and assists each season. I actually thought Ward was very good at Villa and has looked far more effective with a more 'central' or at least defensive identity. If he had been charged with that responsibility 5-10 years ago I feel he would be far more lauded than he is currently. The day we can spend £50mil plus on a full back we may well want for more but for now, I'd rather have a square peg recognised as being so and stuck in the square hole.

It entirely depends on how you want your team to play. If you dominate the ball then you need your fullbacks to be decent going forward. Liverpool are the best examples of this. Trent does every so often get exposed. But he spends most of the time whipping balls into the box so it massively outweighs the negatives. As a result, their 2 fullbacks had 22 assists between them last season. Olise was our best on 5. I reckon PVA would have been brilliant in this team. Another game I thought Tyrick looked under par. Looked much better when Clyne came on. He looks a little lost to me.

I could be wrong, but he could have been a little bit intimidated by their fans. At times it was not pretty… Clyne is a very experienced player and knew how to deal with that kind of pressure. Mitchell is still young and learning his trade.

Have to agree the Newcastle fans were bloody noisy today, we tried to create something but it's difficult when I believe you're over 400 yards or more from the half way line,and are not allowed pitch side which I think gives an unfair advantage to them. When they come to Selhurst we should sheet off the front dozen rows and stick them at the back of the Arthur.

I guess when you have a stadium that's tiered like that its easy to make that decision & gain whatever advantage you can - No doubt there are rules about how many away fans are allowed in each ground (min & max) but there probably aren't any rules about where in the stands they are allocated (other than obvious segregation) - IDK if its possible but maybe we could just give the away fans the back section of the AW where that are hidden behind the TV gantry - Obviously a bit tounge in cheek as suggestions go. Tyrick hasn't been the same since his England call up, made a few costly errors at the end of last season. I noticed yesterday he lost the ball up the pitch and went chasing to get it back leaving his position completely vacant and naturally the ball was played to Almiron in acres of space. People keep saying he's still learning but he isn't a kid anymore and should be more consistent by now.

Some of the crowd were genuinely scary looking; like Shrek on steroids. I do think Mitchell has been carrying a slight injury and were it not for the fact we don't have proper cover he would probably have been rested yesterday. On a more general note, Mitchell struggles when players cut inside as he is so left footed. The covering midfielder needs to show more awareness of this as sometimes Eze and Schlupp are a bit laboured in getting back and covering. They were better yesterday, but to be fair Almiron is largely just a good athlete rather than a good footballer. United's wingers will provide a much sterner test.

At least the toilet was in the bar and not on the ground floor!
