I don't like to read such pessimistic views about our chances of survival this season, however likely they may be. We've only played 5 games so far and, with my optimist hat on, I can't help thinking there's plenty of time to shake things out.

We may not have been particularly active in bringing in new players, that's not unusual on our part, and I prefer that we don't spend loads of cash on unfamiliar players who boast slick videos on YouTube, but no decent, relative experience to draw on.

I think we'll still be in the PL next season and I'm not going to get twitchy about our chances unless we're in the bottom 5 come the World Cup break. Far too early to get a realistic picture.

Look up lads, not down.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

If we're lucky with injuries I still think we have an outside chance at the top 10 despite having a small squad. We have a great team spirit and some real quality in the first XI. I also think we have a very good coaching setup. I think there are several teams who are worse than us and who lack real game changers like Zaha, Eze and Olise. I am fairly confident we'll avoid a relegation dogfight.

We are a decent side tbh. Only PV changes appear to have cost us in two games. Maybe he will learn that we are better with the ball going forwards than waiting for teams to attack. I’m confident we will play our way to survival but if not so be it. I’ve had a great time in the PL and won’t consign my team to history if we arnt there. COYP

In terms of squads - I'd say we have the second worst squad in the league. Worst in the league is Bournemouth. However, not a great marker as Leicester and Liverpool don't have large, good squads either. However, clearly far better than ours.
I get a funny feeling we might find a gem by accident - a bit like AWB.
I don't see what choice we have than to play the youngsters occasionally - as our squad can't handle two or three injuries. Obviously, there will be several injuries at some point.
Another factor is Wilf. Long term injury to him, which is quite possible considering his treatment on the pitch, and what are we left with?

My own consideration is we will be no higher than 14tb. We will probably just about survive. Just about is not great - I'd say 60% stay up/ 40% get relegated. Fine margins.
Keeping Vieira is another factor, as is Manager's second season syndrome. Couldn't help notice Patrick did not stick around in previous manager positions. I would be very disappointed if I were he. Why exactly could we not loan anyone? Teams around us have brought some great players in on loan. We could have had two without disrupting the squad massively. This smacks of amateurism. One wonders what is going on behind the scenes.

I'll give our owners one caveat. A lot of this could have been Wilf related. I can, frankly, just imagine him pushing to leave and that taking a lot of time to sort out - with all the permutations. Our pursuit of Gallagher was embarrassing. Once we were getting mucked around, we should have said no and let them come back to us. There's no similar midfielder in Europe we could have loaned? Everyone can think of one or two who went elsewhere, that would have helped us. Sh1t and frankly demoralising transfer window.

And Willo - you forecast relegation every year so I'm not going to worry too much about that.

In actual fact I have been rather more optimistic in recent seasons but my reservoir of optimism about our prospects this season has run dry.
I cannot envisage us finishing above 3 teams in the table, alas I have been marinating myself in a cauldron of despair.

Can't believe the pessimism within our fanbase...

We were great last season and that was a transition one. No Gallagher is a shame, but the players will now be more drilled to PV's tactics.

We have looked strong and competitive in all matches so far. If we find ourselves in the unlikely position of bottom 6 come January, Parish will dip into his pockets as he usually does.

I would bet my life that we finish at least 10 points above the relegation zone in our usual 10th-14th spot.

I'd be far more worried if I supported Bournemouth, Forest, Leicester, Villa, Wolves, Everton or Fulham.

We have some real quality in Guehi, Anderson, Mitchell, Eze, Olise and Wilf which most teams in the bottom half would envy.

The problem is, all the ones anticipated to be close to the first team have been sent out on loan.

Given who we've played in the 1st 4 games, any more than 4 points would have been outstanding. I was happy with 4.

Playing teams like Brentford* at home, we must get all 3pts. That we didn't was easily the biggest disappontment so far for me.

I'm hoping that aberration was a one off. If it was we'll be fine.

EH

* No disrespect to Bees, they're doing well.

I'm sorry to not please many CPFC fans on here, but we will be in the relegation mix this year, I see on this site people writing off Willo saying he says every year we are going down which is not exactly the truth, we do have problems new stand not been built so no extra revenue, poor management in signings, Americans owners that want to leave, if the club had gone out off the way to sign conner and couple off other signings I would have thought OK we have a chance top ten, but the signing off new players never happened that could make a difference, so Willo is totally correct in what he has posted as towards end off this season we are going to struggle.

I believe that well before the end of the season we will be in the 'Excreta'.
We have Newcastle, Man Utd and Brighton in our next 3 matches, how many appoints will we attain from these games ? Possibly 1 point and if so we will have attained a mere 5 pts from the first 8 PL games.

With our bid for Connor,£27m,we at least have Chelsea fans a good laugh.

Would be feeling more confident with his joining us once again on loan to equal last season's placing.

However, too much quality to go down in my view.

If our points total is 5pts from 8, then using the average points available over 38 games could see us end the season with circa 24pts (let's hope not!). The real point is if our owners are reluctant to invest in the team or want out as the Americans seem to want, then they had better note that Nottingham Forest, spent 23 seasons in the championship before they eventually came back up, I for one do not want to see this great club relegated but it may just happen this year, like it or not!
