I can't believe butter is £2 a pack !

----------------------

Confirmed range is £2.00 to 2.75. However, Sainsbury's have reclassified their own brand butter. It was undercutting the market, now it is called farmhouse at 3.15 for 250 grams.

Funny old thread this, for a bunch of football blokes (mostly I suspect) to take an interest in. Sign of the times I guess, although since I retired I am more aware of prices than I used to be.

The shelves in this neck of the woods seem pretty well stocked, but now and again strange absences occur. Pretzels, for instance, which are a bit of a favourite of mine with a glass or two of ale, disappeared completely not long ago. Then, as suddenly as they vanished, they reappeared again. Bloomin' Russians!

Is anyone else, like me, a fan of the barcode scanners to avoid the hassle of filling the trolley, only to empty everything onto the till conveyer, then stack it all back into bags to carry home? Marvelous invention and soon coming to a supermarket near you. It seems Tesco want to dispense with the checkout staff altogether - others will follow for sure.

As a footnote, the first supermarket I remember seeing was in Surrey Street. FineFare or Tesco I think? Can't honestly remember, although it seemed very futuristic at the time.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

I remember being excited by frozen food - particularly a frozen pizza. First time the frozen compartment of the fridge was used except for ice cubes. I think it was a Co-op for me - which would barely count now.

Aldi butter £2.20
Pack looks like anchor and I reckon it is but in a different pot.

It was called Caters - hope this helps with the memory!

Sure in that run down , third world, flea pit of a little country- a co-op would be grand!PV would untie himself from his kidnapopers chains and threaten to say something nice about his adopted country- god only knows why they won"t let him return home!

Yes use it all the time when shopping. Massively saves time and faffing about. Queues are all at the other check outs.
What's not to like about it?

Blimey CP, you're right! Looked on Wiki (wasn't checking up on you, just curious) and there's quite a lot about the company's history. Anyway, thanks for giving the old grey cells a nudge.
