Had one of those shocking age experiences the other morning - I realised it was 50 years give a day or two since I woke up one January morning and as the dreamy mist evaporated I someone knew i had gonre from being a Man U fan to a Palace fan - just a fwew weeks after the 5-0 so it makes me the world's worst glory hunter. For the record ...

Best Palace Player seen during the last 50: Kenny Sansom (just pips Wilf for me, Wrighty and Peter Taylor next).

best player to wear a Palace shirt - slightly different bcos neither Gerry Francis nor Atilio Lombardo stayed long enough and made their names elsewhere ... so oui's Gerry Francis who looke like Franz Beckenbauser in the 80-81 season till he p*ssed off with El Tel anhalf the quad to QPR.

best match seen at Palace Palace 3 Watford 2 - two screamers from Owen Garvan anbd a worldy from Ambrose one cold Tuesday night - as a football match it was the best in terms of quality goals and excitement - though Burnley 2-0 and other games were bigger occasions, this was my fav match as a watch.

best oppo player seen at Palace - Chris waddle when we beat Wednesday 2-2 - he was so terrifyingly good our home crowd booed him out of fear (un;like us!)

Worst home match Palace 0 wilmbledon 5 Feb '85 with their fans singing team of the 80s.

Yours?

48 years for me this year

Sansom and Wright best players

Still hard to believe Lombardo and Brolin pulled on palace shirts, because they were WORLD class, sadly not by the time they joined us, although Lombardo was still a different class to anything we had at the time

Best match for me was Burnley 79 for just sheer emotion and atmosphere. Also the Ipswich game the next season when we thrashed a top quality Ipswich team 4-1 and we were really in dream land as we went top of the lot

Worst home game, I’ll have to agree, that Wimbledon game was a real low point. Also, although we weren’t there, getting stuffed by 7 Liverpool was embarrassing

Best opponent at selhurst, I’ll go for Gazza

Best palace player goal at selhurst, Billy Gilbert v West Ham

Best own goal, Jeff Hopkins v Millwall

Best opponent’s goal at selhurst….Matty Phillips for QPR a few years ago, a screamer from distance up the Whitehorse lane end

best player to wear a Palace shirt - See above. We might have had better but I don't care.

best match seen at Palace We've done the Man U game often enough so either Swindon 6-2 or Sheffield Utd 5-1.

best oppo player seen at Palace - Maybe not the best but Steve Kindon always caused trouble. He was feckin' fast.

Worst home match Palace Loads of contenders but some huge tonkings off of Liverpool are hard to ignore.

I think you nailed it teddy with Don Rogers nd the 5-1 Sheff. Utd.

Can't recall ever paying much attention to the oppo. even if we were getting stuffed.

A few turgid matches come to mind in Alan Smith's second spell.

I’ll add mine as well, travelled up to brum to see us win 6-0 in 1987, it was especially enjoyable because we’d spent most of the years before in the 80’s watching dross

The most stunning away victory I attended was the 6-1 win at Elm Park, Reading in September 1996. We were unplayable and looked like we would score every time we got the ball. Yet we still somehow allowed Reading to get a penalty for their 'consolation'.

And we beat brum 6-1 at selhurst the week after or before, unbelievable when you think it takes us half a season to score 12 goals now

Been 56 years for me. My selections are:

Best Palace Player seen during the last 50 - Kenny Sansom. He just oozed class from his first appearance. I remember after a few games saying one day he’ll captain England. Best goalkeeper - the recently late and great John Jackson.

best player to wear a Palace shirt - I guess this means they were only with us temporarily. Paul Stewart, who even in his pre-match warm-up routine looked assured and stylish and led his teammates by example during the matches. The other for me is Conor Gallagher in the first half of last season when his energy, enthusiasm and skill elevated the whole team performance

best match seen at Palace - Palace 3 Fulham 2 in April 1969. From a losing position and looking like the dream of finally getting promoted to the top division was being snatched away to storming back for the win and knowing the next season we’d be watching the top teams in the country playing at Selhurst. A close second was the 2-0 versus Burnley in 1979 to again get promoted and being part of a capacity-busting record crowd

best oppo player seen at Palace - Bobby Charlton in August 1969 in the first ever Palace match in the old First Division (now Premier League). Effortlessly skilful and with a thunderous long range shot in him and played in a most sportsmanlike manner. At the end of that season he famously played in the World Cup in Mexico and was substituted by Alf Ramsey when England were 2-0 up versus West Germany in the quarterfinals as the manager wanted to save his energy for the semifinal only to lose 2-3 after Charlton left the pitch

Worst home match - 0-4 v scunthorpe in 2009. Closely followed by 0-4 v Sunderland, who were hopeless the rest of the season, in 2017. One of Sam Allardyce’s earlier matches when the task of beating relegation looked doomed, but by the end of the season was achieved along with a 3-0 beating of Arsenal!

Best palace player goal at selhurst - Don Rogers in 1972 on his debut v Everton. Seemed to run from just inside their half of the pitch to tuck away the only goal in a 1-0 win. Looked like the goal scorer we needed to ensure staying up (sound familiar?) only for the season to end in relegation

Best palace player goal not at selhurst - Ian Wright’s first goal in FA Cup final 1990. Again an amazing run and assured finish having just come off the sub’s bench after being kept out of the starting line-up as just recovered from a broken leg

It was 2-1 (a 2-1 win not a 2-1 draw) - was in a hurry and didn't have time to edit you nitpicker you.

Best away win
- 3-1 at Fulham either Good Friday or easter monday '74 - 3-0 up first half with Peter Taylor running riot. Bobby Moore got a consolation for Fulham. We lost 0-2 at home in the return two weeks later - one of the abs worst Palace performances i've ever seen.

I was at both those matches as well. That first half away to Fulham really was quite something, even if the second half was a bit disappointing and agreed, the return home game was an appalling performance
