From what I've read Ahamada and Lokonga are both box-to-box midfielders, so it could simply be the club see the former as possibly needing more time to adjust to the PL while the latter offers an immediate risk-free option.

Reports have already come out saying Vieira's discussion's with Edu were what convinced the player and Arsenal to allow this loan. I'd be amazed if Vieira doesn't have some goodwill in the bank from his Arsenal days.

Lokonga not rated by Arsenal fans - I'm not convinced either. Box to box is workrate - the exact opposite of reports from Arsenal fans about Lokonga. Goes missing apparently.
Actually with a poor workrate he'll probably fit right in.

As I recall, they didn't rate Nketiah either. Geting back to Lokonga, apparently, he started his career well. The issue appears to be one of confidence. Time will tell, of course.

Fair enough, I hope he does well. Personally, always rated Nketiah - basically as he has pace and strength and can dribble - he's also very versatile. I think his issue was not being a big name.
I just do tend to find fans' opinions of players often pretty revealing - although obviously different at 'bigger' clubs, due to loads knowing nothing about football except owning a replica shirt and mug.
Obviously, clubs talk up their own players often enough - especially for transfers.

I think he'll do OK with us in the short time he's here AS. Definitely has a point to prove if he wants to further his career at Arsenal.

As far as fans' opinions are concerned, I wouldn't rely on that too much if some of the comments on here about our own players is anything to go by.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Credit to him, he at least tried to make an immediate impact today. Had me worried for a moment.

Described on SSN as a straight loan, so you would presume no buy option in the summer.

Clickbait pronounces Lokonga might be sold in the summer? Great if this opportunity comes up, and we can afford it!

He hasn't done anything wrong but neither has he impressed. He seems to be a neat and tidy player but I don't think he is better than Hughes for example.

I hope we don't try and buy him, we can do better.

Hopefully we won’t be seeing Lokonga in a Palace shirt again. Not a player for us.

I was very impressed with the little we saw of him early on.

Agree that he looked a neat and tidy player and I was initially impressed however I think the other night vs Wolves what showed for me was a player who firstly looked rusty due to not having much game time but also someone without enough experience to really step up to the plate when handed a bigger role.

Part of me thought the two given reasons might create the basis of an argument for him to get more game time and encouragement to get the best out of him however another part of me wants to say 'not good enough, out of his depth'. I'm unwilling to make too conclusive a judgement or declaration of either just yet.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Clickbait suggesting Arsenal want to keep him. They're welcome, nothing special

I've not written Lokonga off, though I've not written him in either. I've seen enough to think there's a player in there, although the jury's still out with regard to what the end product will eventually be. He's not rubbish or a no-hoper, but he's not a nailed-on PL player yet either. If Arsenal doesn't want him and we could get him for a sensible sum on a sensible contract (both of which are probably unlikely) I'd say he'd be worth having in the squad and trying to develop because if in the right environment, he can fulfill his potential, then the gamble is worth taking. But only on terms that really suit us.

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.
