We will lose Zaha, Luka, Jairo(?) and possibly Tomkins in the summer. This will release a lot of wages, Giroud will be free transfer so we should be able to cover wages. He is exactly what we need proven goal scorer and experienced

I agree. We have a policy of only buying young players and have wasted £25m plus wages so far on Mateta and Edouard. Giroud will come much cheaper and whilst he won't have any resale value he has a better idea of where the goal is.

Unfortunately we probably won't bother and he will go to another Premier League club and will score against us

Initial reaction is absolutely. But after a bit of thought, Giroud strikes me as a poacher. A clinical finisher in and around the six-yard-box. And I'm not sure that's the sort of striker we need, simply because we don't create the chances for them right now. Maybe one or two a game.

I feel like what we need is a striker who's going to create his own goals. Beat a defender and unleash a strike into the corner. Type thing. A Kane or Ronaldo type.

In saying that, if it's low risk...Giroud would certainly be an upgrade on Mateta and Eduoard.

Let me think.

Mateta, Edouard, Ayew or Giroud ?

Hmm.... it's a difficult one !

Pointless signing him without having full backs who can put a half decent cross in. He's a great finisher but we simply won't give him the chances.

He'd do alright at Newcastle with Trippier putting crosses in given their big slowdown in goals. I think Chelsea could do worse than bring Giroud back, same for Arsenal.

We'd be better off bringing in someone rapid who can press defenders, get in behind and poach. Lois Openda maybe. Still think £12m for Danny Ings was a good deal for West Ham.

If Ings can stay fit, he's a steal at $12m.

Olise put in several decent crosses on the weekend - just didn't have the quality up top to anticipate them and finish. Giroud would eat those crosses up for breakfast I reckon.

It's not inevitable that Giroud would be a success in the PL. Arsenal moved him on because he was too slow from the PL and at 36 he'd be a lot slower. Having Giroud would prevent younger players coming through and I hope Palace won't in desperation go for a short term possible remedy. It would go against buying in or developing promising young players? Zaha will be here at least to the end of the season. I think we should stay with the policy we've got.

I remember Alan Hansen saying “You can’t win anything with kids” and a young Man Utd side going on to win the double. However, even they had a blend of youth and experience. Giroud would be a great addition to the side and even having his experience around the training ground would help Edouard and Mateta become better players not to mention young Umeh who may be a better long term prospect than the other two.
If Giroud is keen to be back in London and is out of contract in the summer we should take him for a couple of years and maybe even dangle a coaching role longer term. Lord knows we need someone to show our lot how you score goals!

I wouldn't worry too much as I doubt he'll be clamouring to come here and West Ham will want him. So will plenty of teams that will pay 200k a week.

I am certainly not expecting Giroud to be wearing our colours next season.
He will be 37 in September, and his remuneration would be high.
We have gallivanted down a different path.

Wise words Willo. I would be amazed and disappointed if he turned up at Selhurst
