We need a manager who has the profile, credibility, and stature in the game to stand up to Parish (and the board), whether we go down or not. Parish surrounds himself with "yes" men, either inexperienced or compliant managers who have, over the past ten years, let him get away with murder without so much as a whisper, enabling him to wreck the club while feeding his own massive ego in the process.

The few serious managers he's hired when really desperate and who've stood up to him; namely Big Fat Sam and Pulis, have walked away rapidly rather than continue to work for someone they knew to be incompetent.

In many ways I love Roy but Parish wants him back simply because he's another one he can manipulate without a serious response in return. Roy, for this reason alone, is not the answer.

If we can't get Parish out of the club in the next 48 hours, we at least need to bring someone in who won't be steamrollered by him; someone who will put football first when it comes to decision-making and make serious waves if that is not at the forefront of all thinking going forward. I'd take Rafa simply because I think that has the best chance of stopping Parish's mismanagement of the club in its tracks, whether we went down or not. And that would be progress right now; at least the start of a possibility of something better.

This could make for an interesting chant. Adi Hutter's mechanised Panzer army!

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

My feeling as well. Roy will be brought back in as SP sees him as a safe pair of hands and he may also be one of the few prepared to take on the assignment without wanting assurances about his future and it can be done quickly

Whether that's the right reason to do it, has of course been extensively debated already.

I am alarmed how he failed so spectacularly at Watford and am not so sure whether the players are up for the fight or the type that will take to his tactics. I too think he could be an even bigger gamble than others that are available.

When people say we should be like Brighton or Brentford. Just think if they were in our league position now, would they be firing their manager and appointing Roy, or someone of a similar ilk?

A reasonable suggestion.

Unfortunately we have turned from 'this is all going shockingly downhill' to staring right down the barrel. I'd be very shocked if anything even remotely resembling any experiment or gamble were to take place. As romantic as it may sound I don't think that's what we need either.

To caveat before anyone else does, I think Roy could very well be as much if not more a gamble than other names touted. My feeling is he will be on the cards only due to lack of ability to obtain a different option.

I am surprised at your comment about "wrecking the club"; I have to say that's not my perspective. Leaving aside the current problems, CPFC is unrecognisable from when 2010 bought the club out of Admin.
Significant progress there has certainly been at many levels and Parish has been the constant throughout the 12 years; in my view, his judgement has been broadly correct and steady throughout the period.

Personally I think Steve Parish is the best thing that's happened to Palace in decades. This guy rescued us and has kept us in the Premier League for nearly 10 years. He's managed to persuade big investors and in general there's always been a great atmosphere around the club. We have one of the best training facilities in the UK and we've purchased multimillion pound top quality players. I always feel he makes the right decision and is always a great ambassador for our club. I feel safe with him in charge and would hate to seem him leave.

Adolf Parish making the decisions and Adolf Hutter managing the fallout. Only at Palace. You couldn't f***ing make it up.

I don’t understand why many are giving Roy the nod. He didn’t keep Watford up and showed no real passion for them. He’s a nice bloke but that’s about all he has to offer in his twilight years.

It’s as if his supporters have just given up on ideas and passion and are running back to Dad to save them. He won’t though.

Roy is a big no for me. One of the reasons why we've just sacked a manager is not creating/scoring enough goals. I can't see what Roy brings to the table in attacking play. It's not like we are shipping goals. I know we conceded 4 yesterday but that was with our academy keeper and our centre half getting injured in the warm up.

We need somebody to somehow fire this lot up, Roy is not the man for that. If that's who we're thinking of turning to then we may as well of stuck with PV.

Adolf hasn't managed in the PL, Roy has to great effect. Lampard has had two PL experiences in the PL . OK he was sacked but very few managers aren't.

Be careful Syd I got stick for suggesting that we needed to plan for the future and that we have to consider that going down may happen as a result.

I am far less condemning of Steve Parish. We have stayed in the top division for our longest ever term under him. I think he genuinely cares for the club. I am not so sure if him and the rest of the board got complacent or there are more serious issues at board level. And I think this time around criticism is fair, because they are so some extent partially to blame.

I've almost always found your posts interesting and well argued, but I think you've lost the plot with this vindictive and incontinent attack on the Chairman.

When Potter left Brighton to manage Chelsea, Brighton appointed de Xerbi, who has taken to the PL really well. But Brighton already had a really good experienced squad assembled by Potter.
My conclusion at the end of this ramble? Bring back Roy and Ray on 18;month contracts and get them to oversee the summer rebuild..
