Paddy as assistant manager and lewington first team coach

“This is a crisis, a large crisis.... in fact if you have a moment, it’s a 12 storey crisis, magnificent entrance hall, carpeting throughout, 24 hour portage , and an enormous sign on the roof saying “This , is a large crisis” - Edmund Blackadder

Totally right , I mean if and it is an if we stay up and Boro don’t get promoted I would make a serious effort to get Carrick in , but as you say , no one at this point is a better appointment than Roy

We have no idea whether there are better appointments than Roy. We’ve simply shat ourselves, reverted to type and are now praying it works. We should not be in this mess.

Roy certainly can see an easy £££ earner when the opportunity comes along. Watford and now this.
Palace must must by now have the reputation amongst certain circles as a club where it is easy to enhance one's bank balance.
Smile, agree with the chairman, flatter the chairman, disagree with the chairman, sack, compensation package.

I know they film Ted Lasso at our club but we don’t have to borrow one of their scripts as a working model!!!

One thing we had under Roy, that is sadly missing at the moment is that ‘Palace spirit’.
Having him back on the long term is clearly a backward step, but to see us through this season……..absolutely the right decision in my view.
But then……..what do I know? I’ve only supported Palace for 65 years.

Can just imagine the conversations that took place

SP “Well Dougie, that’s it a loss to Brighton, but at least we had a shot on target”

DF “Och aye Steve, well I think PV should go as those moments we attacked and didn’t score really hit our confidence and shape. We’d have got a 0-0 otherwise and a point, and a point a game will keep you up over a season”

SP “agreed Dougie, he’s gone, Paddy for the weekend”

One 4-1 loss later

DF” I tell you Steve it’s this attacking lark, everytime we don’t score it makes the chances of 0-0 even less”.

SP “don’t worry Dougie, I’ve just the man for the job……..”

Well done Parish you’ve made us the laughing stock of the premier league. This appointment shows how little you know about the fans as nobody wants Roy back

What I enjoy about this site is everybody is entitled to their own opinion. This is mine…

Firstly, I’m not at all happy about the sacking of PV - but as others have said, there seems to be more to this than meets the eye. We will never know!

Yes…under the circumstances, appointing Roy is definitely the right thing to do.
He knows the club, the players, the way things work at CP. It will allow McCarthy to work alongside an experienced manager - and who knows what that might lead to.

The bigger picture cannot be solved until we know what division we are playing in next season. At that point, a new manager will have a proper pre-season to set out his expectations, add to the squad and build from there.

I for one will be backing Roy and the team against Leicester……let’s rekindle the Selhurst spirit.

I'm intentionally staying unemotional about this as I can't help but feel that any emotive expression will come completely absent of logic.

I don't want to see any abuse of Hodgson firstly as we should have great respect for what he achieved but also he is intrinsically linked with the club now, plus an old man too.

The other possibility in my own head, and I'm sure others too, is that we ended up getting the likes of Hutter, Favre or other. Someone with no connection to the club whatsoever who might take a while to settle and that would all be too late. If that $hitshow were to play out they'd inevitably leave without any real emotion and we'd look even more silly I suspect and as fans we'd be a lot more angry too. At this moment in time Roy knows the club, the majority of the players know him and he has a couple weeks to embed our approach herein.

Somebody used the phrase 'running back to Dad' which I thought was spot on and for all the world I want to point a finger at those upstairs and say 'haha, you really don't know what you're doing etc.'. If any positive spin could be put on it I'd be inclined to at least hope this might spur the Americans and Parish into putting a plan of actual substance in place after this season.

I am a Palace fan however, Palace is a football club, and at the end of the day I am just hoping to be a PL supporting fan next season. I really cannot see any point in whining, though I do not deny others that right, but for me the only viable option forward is to just get behind the team now, and Roy, and hopefully roar us through to the end of the season 17th or above in the league.

I was saddened by PV's demise and departure but I honestly thought it was all a bit late and should have happened sooner. Roy will be an interim solution and let us hope it works out. Leicester is a very winnable game and we should be looking for exactly that. Start well and who knows how things might pan out. I'll be there cheering us on.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

It seems now it is only a matter of time before this is officially announced.

Short term it might work and he might keep us up. Smacks of desperation though. I suspect the Board have suddenly become frightened that their investment may suddenly decrease.

Appoint a manager in the summer? Sounds fine in principal, but we all know how long it will take SP. We will be ill prepared for next season again, no matter what division we are in.

I have nothing but utmost respect for Roy Hodgson, a wonderful gentleman who has been a top football model for medium sized teams in his day. I just wished he had said no, enjoyed his retirement and made SP look beyond the end of his nose.

The only reason to do this is if there is going to be major changes in ownership in the summer, so that new owners can come in and start afresh. If that happens, it will be the only thing that would make sense other than utter desperation.

Everyone outside the club is willing us to go down now. To an extent we deserve it. Its often in this adversity that we become stronger, battling against the odds. Do the current set of players have the cajones? We will see.

I just want this season to finish now. We have shot ourselves in the foot and now looking to limp over the line before the other runners overtake us.

It is as plain as a pikestaff that if the impending appointnent is not a success Parish will face the wrath of the supporters. The atmosphere at the ground could turn exceedingly toxic.

When i heard about this Hodgson saga last week I concluded that the messenger was 'Pulling my leg' my riposte was dismissive and I used a word which could be described as there are two of them and they are roughly spherical.
