Eagles stunned by late equaliser

November 29 2003

Nationwide Division One

Nationwide Division One

An injury time equaliser earned First Division draw specialists Coventry City a point in a 1-1 draw at Selhurst Park.

Palace's on-loan defender Rob Edwards grabbed his first goal for the club early in the ninth minute.

He powerfully directed a header downwards from a corner, which bounced on the goal line, and nestled into the top right corner.

The Eagles took control of the first half, but the attacking line was halted when Andy Johnson suffered a ankle injury and was replaced by Wayne Routledge in the 33rd minute.

Tommy Black took Johnson's place up front, alongside DOUGIE FREEDMAN.

Coventry came back at Palace in the second half, and the Eagles spent much of the second period camped in their own half.

Coventry's pressure finally paid off deep into injury time at the end of the match, when subsitiute John Jackson headed home, much to the frustration of caretaker-boss Kit Symons.

Crystal Palace: Myhre, Fleming, Popovic, Edwards, Derry, Black, Hughes, Butterfield, Borrowdale, FREEDMAN, Johnson.

Subs: Berthelin, Granville, Symons, Watson, Routledge.

Coventry City: Ward, Warnock, Pead, Davenport, Konjic, Safri, McAllister, Doyle, Joachim, Adebola, Morrell.

Subs: Shearer, Whing, Suffo, Staunton, Jackson.
