1971

Christopher Symons born in Basingstoke on March 8.

1988

Worked his way into the first team at Portsmouth from a trainee and eventually makes 160 appearances.

1992

Wins first of 37 caps for Wales.

1994

Scoops Portsmouth Fans' Player of the Year award.

1995

Leaves for Manchester City in a £1.2million switch where he plays 124 times.

1998

Symons arrives at Fulham on a free transfer, helping the Cottagers storm up the league.

2001

December - Joins Crystal Palace as Trevor Francis's first capture in a £400,000 deal.

2002

January - Misses rest of 2001/02 season after sustaining groin injury against Coventry City.

2003

November - Appointed caretaker for nine matches after manager Steve Kember was sacked.

December - Reverts back to player after Iain Dowie becomes new manager.

2004

January - Plays what ends up being his last game for the Eagles - his 60th in total - in 3-0 FA Cup defeat at Spurs.

February - Dowie puts Symons in a player-coach role.

2005

June - Replaced as coach by Neil McDonald but moves across to reserve team manager.

2006

June - Dowie quits and Symons installed as incoming manager Peter Taylor's first team coach while remaining reserve team boss.

2007

October 8 - Made caretaker manager in wake of Taylor's departure.

October 15 - Leaves Palace after new boss Neil Warnock brings in his own coaching team.
