Edgar Davids has agreed terms with Crystal Palace on a pay as you play contract.

Davids, 37, who has earnt 74 caps for Holland during his career, trained with the squad on Friday morning and spoke to the official club website shortly afterwards: "It is an exciting time for the football club, and it is an exciting time for me. I just want to enjoy football and show the best I can do."

George Burley explained how the move came about: "We spoke to Edgar and had a meeting with him earlier in the week. The boy felt enthusiasm and he has been training with Ajax but now its good to see us agree terms with him."

Speaking to Sky Sports News the Dutch legend said: "I'm sharp and fit. I've been training with Ajax the last few weeks.

"The Championship is one of the strongest leagues in the world, after the Premier League.

"If you look at the Serie A and Serie B, and at the Primera Division and the league under that, they're not as strong as the Championship.

"It's really, really physical so it's going to be a big challenge for me and I'm not going to underestimate it."

Davids still has a property in London from his time at Tottenham and he recalls Palace's Mark Bright-Ian Wright strike pairing of the late 80's and early 90's.

"I know Crystal Palace from when I was a kid, with Wright and Bright and I already live in London so it'll be fun to play again.

"It's not about what I can offer the club - we have to do it together and make sure we have good spells and a bright future."

"I can play left-back, I can play midfield and I can play left or right wing - it's up to where the team needs me, and I just want to enjoy myself," he added.

"I was already retired but I talked with some friends and with George. He was excited and he said just to have fun, give it your all and see what it leads to."

Davids has been without a club for the past 2 years, but has won numerous titles during his career so far.

Davids will be at Selhurst Park at tomorrow's game against Ipswich Town to be introduced to the crowd.
