Crystal Palace extended their unbeaten run to eight matches after playing out a 0-0 draw at home to Portsmouth.

Pompey went closest to scoring in a drab game with Jason Pearce hitting the woodwork but the Eagles held on to claim a sixth successive clean sheet.

Anthony Gardner nodded a corner over the bar in the match's first chance on goal before Liam Lawrence headed Tal Ben Haim's cross off target.

They went closer to scoring as a free-kick from Lawrence was met by Pearce whose looping header smacked against the upright.

After the break, Julian Speroni pushed out Joel Ward's mis-hit cross and the game petered out with neither side looking like they were to score.

Palace boss DOUGIE FREEDMAN brought on Sean Scannell on for Jonathan Parr to help conjure some magic but it failed to work as Pompey's Lawrence saw another free-kick deflected just over in this stalemate.

Palace: Speroni, Clyne, McCarthy, Gardner, Moxey, Zaha, Parr (Scannell 59), Wright, Dikgacoi, Ambrose (Easter 73), Murray.

Not Used: Price, O'Keefe, Ramage.

Portsmouth: Henderson, Mokoena, Pearce, Rocha, Ben-Haim, Lawrence (Huseklepp 83), Mullins, Norris, Ward, Kitson, Varney.

Not Used: Ashdown, Razak, Riise, Kanu.
