Everton v Palace

Goodison Park, Wednesday 7.45pm

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace

Team news

However they were knocked off the top of the table just last weekend when they suffered a 4-1 defeat against Man Utd.

Not only did their trip to Old Trafford cause the Toffees to lose top spot in the Premiership, it also created a few injury worries with Mark Pembridge, Alessandro Pistone, Gary Naysmith and Niclas Alexandersson al doubtful for the Worthington Cup game on Wednesday Night.

On the other hand, there are a few players who may be fit to make an appearance against the Eagles. One of these is Tomasz Radzinski who signed for Everton in the summer but has yet to play a game. Two other players who could also play a part in the game are Paul Gascoigne, Abel Xavier, Joe Max Moore, and Idan Tal, all of whom are likely to make their home debuts this season.

Palace will be hoping to emulate last season's Worthington Cup run which saw them get to the semi final, beating the likes of Leicester and Sunderland on the way, and even Liverpool 2-1 in the first leg of the semi final.

However midfielder David Hopkin is unlikely to have recovered from the injury which he suffered at Millmoor in the first game of the season, and so is likely to join fellow injury casualty Jamie Smith who is reported to have picked up an elbow injury in Saturday's derby clash with Millwall.

On the plus side American international Gregg Berhalter should make the starting line up after having sat on the bench for Saturday's game, what's certain is that his defensive qualities are definitely needed if Palace are to stop the likes of Duncan Ferguson and Kevin Campbell from going on a scoring spree.

One to watch

Duncan Ferguson

Everton's top scorer

Campbell/Ferguson - 2 goals

Everton's bad boy

Pistone - 3 0

The 6 foot 4 inch tall striker is a cult hero in the blue half of Liverpool. Transferred back from Newcastle, the tall forward is always a danger in the air and with Palace's poor defensive record this season, he is certainly the one who will cause a lot of trouble!
