Crystal Palace staged an incredible comeback to recover from three goals down to draw 3-3 at home to Liverpool.

The result virtually ensured the end of Liverpool's Premier League title bid as Eagles super sub Dwight Gayle netted twice in the amazing recovery.

Liverpool were excellent value for their first half performance and could have gone in at the break with more than just a one-goal lead.

An unmarked Mamadou Sakho headed Steven Gerrard's corner into the ground and wide, while Glenn Johnson put Joe Allen's inch-perfect long ball over when free.

And on 18 minutes it was no surprise to see the Reds take the lead as Allen was left all alone to nod a Liverpool corner past Julian Speroni.

Jason Puncheon forced Reds keeper Simon Mignolet to push his shot around the post, before Mignolet acrobatically palmed Mile Jedinak's blaster over the bar.

Speroni tipped away a low shot from Luis Suarez and then pulled out an even better save to divert Daniel Sturridge's curler onto the post.

Sturridge extneded Liverpool's lead eight minutes after the interval with a deflected shot after good work by Gerrard.

Two minutes later, Raheen Sterling picked out Suarez who finished a fine move by making it 3-0 and the visitors were on fire.

But with 11 minutes left, Palace pulled one back after Damien Delaney's long-range strike took a ricochet off Johnson and flew into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.

Two minutes later, Yannick Bolasie broke clear and set up Gayle to score with a neat finish for 3-2.

Then in the 88th minute, fellow sub Glenn Murray played in Gayle who showed great composure to level the scores at 3-3 for his fourth of the season and cap a remarkable comeback.

Palace: Speroni, Mariappa, Dann, Delaney, Ward, Dikgacoi (Ince 84), Jedinak, Ledley, Bolasie, Puncheon (Gayle 65), Chamakh (Murray 71).

Liverpool: Mignolet, Johnson, Flanagan, Skrtel, Sakho, Gerrard, Allen, Lucas, Sterling (Coutinho 78), Sturridge (Moses 86), Suarez.
