Either a total nobody in Life, or with only modest fame & recognition. But then, after they died, their handiwork 'cast a long shadow'.

Excluded from the Thread....anybody influential but big & important during their lifetime. Hence, Constantine the Great & Mohammad are not sufficiently anonymous & humble to get into the listings. Both were too important during their own lifetimes.

for starters :

- Christ...during his life, just another Cult leader. One of the thousands Worldwide. Statistically speaking, in life, Overshadowed by bigger cult leaders of history (Jim Jones, The illuminati, The Moonies, even David Koresh had a hell of a lot more than 12 disciples ). By the time of Christ's death 99.9% of people living in the Roman Empire had not heard of him. And to get crucified was a fairly common punishment...meted out to tens of thousands of criminals from the Spartacus revolt and onwards. Did Christ cast a long shadow ?

- John Kennedy Toole....author of comedy masterpiece 'Confederacy of Dunces'.

- Geoffrey Chaucer

- Homer...a humble blind man.

- Mozart.....died in poverty.

- Vivaldi

- Gavrilo Princip...a total nobody - died young skinny & sick in jail, father of two World Wars, the Soviet Union, Irish independence, the holocaust, the State of Israel, a Cold War, the EU & Nato, and maybe the Ukraine war today. Most Croydon schoolkids know who won the latest Celebrity Dance competition on the BBC. The same kids have never heard of Gavrilo Princip.

- John Graham Chambers...the fact you haven't heard of him justifies his presence on this thread. Raise a glass for him when next watching Tyson Fury battering some pretender to his throne.

- Marinus of Tyre, a nobody without whom Columbus may have never discovered the Americas.

- Alan Turing.....so humble in life that the State ( that he had saved from the Nazi') went and crucified him for being gay. No medals, no money, dead at age 41. The father of modern computing.

- Ebenezer....Good at formulising sets of rules. Whose work was so Good , you wouldn't even be on this website today without him. childless, buried in a semi-derelict graveyard, his house tumbled down recently. A nobody.... responsible for 1.5 Billion people observing the same live event, simultaneously.

Vincent van Gogh
Franz Kafka
Gallileo
Sonny Liston
Max Woosnam - no idea how appreciated he was in his day but he's arguably Britain's greatest ever sportsman.

Leonardo da Vinci.
Not only a wonderful artist but a creative draughtsman and a revolutionary engineer. Genius.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

most people cannot recall the name of this poor fella. Imagine how a simple fruit seller, with a street cart, could change the lives of up to half a billion souls. RiP

Wayne Hennessey has his own world? That explains a lot.

Pseudo right wing but not a lot of social mobility.
