Found this You Tube clip of David Giles' winning goal against top of the table Sheff Wednesday. I didn't know it existed, amazing to look at something i haven't actually seen for nearly 30 years.

This game is in there as one of my fondest Selhurst memories. Nov 26th 1983, incredibly Sheff Wed were still unbeaten since the start of that season - 15 matches i think. The only club in the country who were so. Because of this there was a 'big' crowd - 11,000, considering our previous two home games brought in 5,000 you can imagine the significance of the game.

It felt like they were never going to be beaten and it felt like the whole country were waiting to see who would be the first team to beat them..... and then they came to Selhurst. Under Mullery we were of course struggling again but somehow it just felt inevitable that it would be us to stop Wednesday's run.

I was in the Holmesdale and remember the last few minutes George Wood time wasting like i've never seen before, literally polishing the ball to an inch of its life before each goal kick. It was one of the few great memories from a very bleak period.

Oh and by the way, the very next week we played bottom of the table Swansea.....and lost!

If ever the term 'Typical Palace' needed an explanation, these two games would be it.

Also stumbled upon youtube the other day, highlights of the reverse game that season at Hillsborough in April'84. First time I was ever there .I remember us playing them off the park before Billy Gilbert gave away a dodgy penalty ,that should really have been a indirect free kick. Wlilst I'm here Bubbs, can I say thanks very much for posting those photos of matches in the eighties. Brought back great memories

Cheers.

I was at the away game at Hillborough too. It was an unbelievable spectacle wasn't it? They needed to win to go up and the home ends were heaving. I swear i've never heard noise like that in a football ground before. It was literally painful on the ears at times.

It was surreal wasn't it?, the ground so full and our end so empty!

Talking of Sheffield Wednesday, does anybody remember the 0-0 home draw under Francis against them when literally nothing happened? Surely the worst home game for years?
