I sit in block b and I think the atmosphere is great. We literally sing non stop! But.... I do think it would create a better atmosphere if it were next to the away fans. I know block w of Arthur is quite bouncy but still that is not next to them block y is and that is very quiet. I think either we create another singing section in block y or
maybe the HF move to there. Just a thought because you can't hear anything the away fans sing hardly from the holmesdale so when it is just the HF singing I'm sure you can't hear it from the away end. Hence why we weren't voted best atmosphere in England And only came 6th

It's also partly because our atmosphere is nothing special anymore whether we like that or not. It's a shame, but inevitably went down hill as he seasons went on in the prem. If I remember correctly block b was situated there with your exact reasoning in mind, away fans used to occupy that section in Arthur a while back.

Think the HF would take some convincing to relocate - had a season ticket at the top of W a few seasons back and it used to be rocking every single game, sometimes we'd even sing "can you hear the Holmesdale sing!"... but the view is truly appalling since they moved the gantry over there.

Years back the Arthur used to be the singing stand. Can barely hear the HF most games when in the Arthur and when in the Holmesdale you cannot hear the away fans much.
I liked it at Leicester with their fans either side of the away fans on the corner. Away fans were moved to save policing fees, would be such a better atmosphere if away fans were moved back to the other side of the Arthur with our fans either side. Would be more banter between fans. Would also stop our family section getting abuse from the away fans. Cannot be many clubs who site the away fans next to the family stand.

When we were at the bottom of the championship, decent away fans would make the the game for me , next to the Holmesdale.
The away fans are an irrelevance nowadays, if you are sat in the Holmesdale, don't even think Pompey could be heard that far away.
We still get a decent atmosphere , but there's no edge to the atmosphere. Modern football, its not changing.

The away fans always used to be next to the Holmesdale, they were moved precisely because that's where the HF are and the Police kicked up a fuss about policing costs.

The police wanted to increase their presence, at extra cost, if the away supporters remained next to the HF. The board decided to move the away support to avoid that.

Halcyon days. Had a season ticket in Block B myself back then and it was great entertainment.

block y always appears to be full of "lost souls" we often stroll to the back of this block to have a gander at the away fans before taking our places and this lot look like they have entered the wrong venue and meant to go the the crystal palace bowl or an ice rink

they make no noise, show no colours (but there again nor do I), and very little interest in the game.

I am beginning to suspect that they are time travellers from the future coming back to see how life was in the early 21st century

its awesome compared to
1. the first 40 yrs of me visiting
2. most other grounds

but

1. oppos have upped their game when they come here and make more noise than they used to
2. our noise is a little less intense this year but is more extensive when viewed from centre of arthur everyone to the left seems to be involved

If we stay up, it would be nice if we could move the away fans back again and pay the extra Police costs. Not sure how happy ST holders in these blocks would feel about being moved though.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

I believe that, whilst the costs were a factor, the board also decided that they didn't want a substantial increase in the police presence inside the stadium. It's likely that they won't have changed their minds on that.
