Gaff of the highest order in the current climate. [Link] Probably all she could expect from ABC as they don''t need all the bad media from 'harbouring a racist'. If she'd have said it in a stand-up routine I expect everyone would have p1ssed themselves laughing and it would have flown under the radar. Feel a bit sorry for her if what she says is true - that she thought Valerie Jarrett was white - and lets face it, she does look like one of those Planet of the Ape characters. One ill-thoughout Tweet and your (and hundreds of other people's) day job goes down the toilet.

Its not private.

She then blames it on the Ambien, good on the drug manufacturer to point out that racism is not a recognised side affect. And she has a history of this. After she was criticised for insulting the national anthem she played the sympathy card by "revealing" she was sexually abused as a child. Whilst this is dreadful it had nothing to do with her faux pas. As the OP says I feel sorry for the many people she has put out of work.

I'm just surprised that Fox hasn't picked it up instead. Like NBC did with Brooklyn Nine-Nine when Fox cancelled that. It wasn't a joke, which is how she's trying to defend herself, and it wasn't the worst thing in the world either but in this day and age outrage and joblessness was always going to follow on from it.

She is stupid but it is a shame as the programme actually touches on problems which are happening now, immigration, illegal workers, healthcare etc. From the US comedy series I've seen there are few that do that (other than cartoons).

She was foolish in the current 1984 climate to tweet something like that but it is sad that we are all being controlled via money to toe a certain line. Will we be hanging people for making jokes next?

Its not just a single comment that got her the sack, its a multitude of tweets prior to this one, and as you note, she cant stop tweeting after the fact, blaming everyone else. She is hardcore Right, she used to retweet all sorts of things, including the one about Hilary clinton operation a child p*** ring out of a pizza store in Washington (a guy actually went to the place with a gun and threatened people because of it), as well as constantly insisted Obama was not born in the USA. She continued with her conspiracy theory tweets which caused much controversy, as the reboot aired. This was just the final straw. Strangely enough, she ran of election under the green part a few years back and was actually a bit of a lefty herself, but i guess something changed. Honestly though, if you look at Valerie Jarrett, you wouldnt guess she was black, maybe latin or Middle eastern. But still dumb insulting thing to say regardless. Interesting though, how the first 2 episodes of the reboot hit 18M viewers, which is around the time people started drawing attention to her crazy tweets, then numbers dropped through the floor to around 10M 4 weeks later, and now finally it is no more. Feel sorry for the production staff who are out of a job through no fault of their own. Edited by twist (31 May 2018 6.12pm)

We would say she's mixed race, or her parents are/were. I read that last episode had the highest rating of any TV show on that week also. The premier of it got over 25m viewers altogether.
