The cost of security etc on match days must be quite significant so after paying the fixed costs on the ground (rates, ground staff and so on) then I’d venture that it’d be more profitable to play all our matches behind closed doors. Quite sad to see what football’s become.

No, I'm saying that it's sad that the fans, always the heart and soul of any club, seem to be becoming less and less connected or, indeed relevant. The emotional link seems to be more and more tenuous as the Premier League reinforces itself as a brand and becomes as impersonal as any other faceless plc.

We may be less financially relevant but I think we still carry an emotional connection and I think Steve Parrish has acknowledged that within this report. I'm of the belief that the emotional connection is a personal one largely driven by the individual fan rather than the club and as such that link may well live or die on the back of our own commitment and continued belief. I think we have all supported Palace through good and bad times financially and that has never impacted upon my continued support as I imagine it never has for others either. I guess that we have to make the choice whether to be the heart and soul or allow that to be ground to dust under the corporate heel (apologies for the rather obvious use of cliche).
